4.2 G of sugar in 1 tsp...
We were told in our 6 month class to stay under 5 G of sugar when looking at protein drinks and the like...
I just read that one tsp of sugar has 4.2 Gs....
I want some coffee so badly that I have considered putting 1 tsp of real sugar in it....splenda is soooo bitter...I'm 5 weeks out and i have yet to find anything satisfying to drink...
So whats ya'll opinion, do you think i will dump on real sugar even at that amount?
I havent dumped on anything yet, but my meal choices are still very limited...i eat real food, im just so cautious of everything...i stay relatively close to the same things everyday...
Before surgery i had coffee in a big ol huge mug like 16 oz. with three spoons of coffeemate and two spoons of sugar...
I have made coffee since surgery with one splenda and FF liquid coffeemate..its horrible...i miss my coffee....

Ok, take a deep breath, you are not and won't be a failure at this! You had a revision and so you probably have a lot of doubts and concerns from the first surgery, I know I did. For years I swore I'd never have another WLS because "They just don't work" or because I knew I would fail at it again. That's a very scary thought to have.
To answer your questions -
Is is bad that you're thinking of putting a spoon of sugar in your coffee? No I don't' think that's a bad question, the result may or may not be what you want. Would I suggest going to real sugar right now, a month out of surgery? No probably not. Try different flavorings, different amounts, flavored coffee maybe.
Will you fail if you end up dumping? No, definitely not. Only about 40% of people with RNY dump, some dump on sugar, some on sugar and fat, some just on fat, some on carbs, some are severe some are mild. Some people never dump. I know people in all of those categories that are incredibly successful either way. Personally I can eat about 12g of sugar in one sitting before I start dumping, so I do on occasion have real sugar, I just moderate it. Some people dump on 1gm of sugar no matter what. I wouldn't suggest finding your limit yet, you are still healing and that's what you need to focus on.
Breaking out of the cycle of old ways? That's different for everyone, but a big part for me was working on breaking the obsessive thoughts I had about food. Condemning myself for eating something "bad" and always worrying about what the next thing going into my mouth was going to be.

Before surgery I always drank my coffee with a liberal amount of half & half (my husband calls it "extra blond") and Splenda or Stevia. I use the Sweet Leaf liquid stevia now when I am having straight coffee, which isn't very often. I usually stir in a scoop of protein powder if I am having it now, along with enough milk to cool it down so the protein powder does not clump. That way I get my coffee fix and my protein in
I know after surgery my taste senses were heightened and I couldn't tolerate near as much as I do now, so it gets better. Try some different flavor packs - my fav right now is Hawaiian Punch Lemon Berry Squeeze. For coffee try the chocolate or my fav - chocolate-caramel. If the protein makes you gag, try some SF chocolate syrup in your coffee to see if that helps.
And if all else fails, take the advice of a lady who used to post on this board. She said she spent her whole life indulging herself and eating whatever she wanted to eat and now it was time to eat what was good for her.

As for your question of whether to have sugar in your coffee........
My advice is no. It is a slippery slope and you are too early out to be testing your limits and willpower. My guess is the 2 tsp were not flat, but mounded so you were getting closer to 3 tsp or 12.6 gm sugar. Add to that the sugar in your iced tea and it is a lot of empty calories that will slow down your weight loss during a time you need to take advantage of while it is "easy". Not to mention it could make you very sick.

Thanks to Debbi and yourself , I talked myself down away from the sugar bowl....
preop the sugar was mounded.... i am so scared of failure that i don't want to add table sugar into any of my meals or drinks....
i just mixed some Special K2O, strawberry kiwi flavor and if i can get past the smell the taste isn't so bed...i don't think it will be a favorite...i will look for the Hawaiian punch you suggested..
Thanks and your right this is the easy time to loose wt. and i wanna capitalize on it...
