Just me again with another question

Hey Ya'll,

I just came back from seeing the doctor for pains in my legs.  He is certain it is caused by the joints in my hips and lower back.  He has put me on Celebrex. He is also having his nurse call the pain management clinic and get me in. I am wondering if anyone has been on it and if they have had any problems?  He said he has given to other patients that have had WLS and cant take antienflamatories!  So if you can help that would be great.  I know I can always count on you guys for a good answer.  Love ya

I'm interested in the answer to this, too. I have an appointment next week to my PCP about my knees and legs hurting so bad. I would have thought after losing 115lbs the knee pain would have gotten better but it hasn't, not even a little bit. I'm afraid so many years of being MO has done permanent damage.

So I'm interested to know what has worked for others with knee and joint pain.

Dee

Sorry your knees are still bothering you.  Mine got better after the first 20 pounds came off and then gradually got worse over the next couple of years.

Do not take NSAIDS of any sort without your Surgeons approval.  You are not out far enough and they can cause major damage to the pouch.  I would suggest pain management to you also.  Make sure you have current xrays done so they can see the spacing in the joint.

Good luck

Thanks, Q...I didn't realize Celebrex as an NSAID. I avoid them all like the plague! I have to admit I dream of the days when I could take some Advil or Motrin and the pain would be gone!

With your history of ulcers, I would not be taking Celebrex.  Let alone having an RNY, it just makes not sense to me!!

I would call that clinic back and let them know they may have made a mistake!!

The pain management is the way to go.  I have had my back and right knee injected.  It really has helped alot.  I still have pain, but not to the intensity before the injections.  I have osteoarthritis and I occasionally, with my surgeons approval, take NSAIDS for limited amounts of time.

Good luck....

Thanks Que.  That is jus what I was wanting to know.  He told me when he gave it to me that if it bothered me to stop taking it.  I think he was just trying to help.  I have been trying now for a week to get into the pain management doctor but no one seems to want to call me back.  Doctor was going to have his nurse look into it for me.  In the mean time I will ot take the Celbrex and just take my Tramadol and deal with it.  Think about you often.  Love you!

MICHELLE-when I was about a year out I took Celebrex for 3 months....BUT...my PCP had conferred with my WLS surgeon, and they agreed on it...AND....I didn't have any history of ulcer stuff. As soon as my ortho problem got better I was able to get off the Celebrex. Of course, I always had to be careful to take precautions (not take on empty pouch, etc.)...AGAIN...this was MY experience.

I can't remember-have you been "tested" for fibromyalgia? Just thinking about that, since your pain sound muscular.

Okay...that's all the Dr. Gina-ing I can do before coffee.....

Thank you Dr. Gina  :)  I have never been tested for fibromyalgia.  What kind of test do they give you for that?  I have decided I am not going to take the Celebrex.  My stomach is messed up enough as it is.  Dont want to make it worse!  Will just take my Tramadol and deal till I can get into Pain Management!  I trust your opinion so much.  Thanks for responding!

M-LYNNETTE would be your best source for questions about FM-she has the first hand experience. Maybe you should post a new thread, where she and others could see it
