Hey Ya'll,

Just got my lab work back.  Everything is ok BUT my B-6 level was abnormal.  Of course I was just talking to the nurse and she is not at liberty to talk to me about it till she talks to the doctor!  Can you guys tell me what it might mean?

Michelle......I am NO expert at all but I did go to my OH Leader manual and found this on vitamin B-6.

Vitamin B-6 ( Pyridoxine )    Aids in synthesis and breakdown of amino acids and the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates;  supports the central nervous system; maintains healthy skin.

It also has specific vitamin and mineral deficiencies on vitamin B-6 is skin.....Seborrheic dermatitis, cheilosis. and glossitis.

Vitamin B-6 ( Pyrodoxine )  Needed for:  Energy production, red blood cell formation, immunity, nervous system and hormone function.

That is all I could find about vitamin B-6.   Hope this helps or answers some of your questions.    Praying for you that you will get the answers you need soon from your doctor.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Thanks Viv.  Maybe this is the cause of my being tired all the time, and also being confused a lot.  I appreciate you getting this info for me.  Will keep you posted.

VIv - this is very interesting.... And may explain something I'm having trouble with...  Along my neck, I have these flare up's of flaky/rash'ish skin patches that seen to be worse when I'm stressed, or we have very cold weather.  I did some research of seborrhic dermatitis (which I can't pronounce...) and it sounds like a match.  Never had this issue before until 6 months after RNY...  I also have lower hemoglobin levels so possibly have a B6 issue would make sense...

When I get home today, I'm going to look back at my labs from August to see what B6 showed.  My B12 was high, but don't recall anything odd with B6.

Lisa.....as I said I am not a medical professional nor do I have alot of knowlege of labs.   I just saw Michelle post this and had my OH support group meeting yesterday so I decided to go to my leader training material to see what they had to say about B6.   Hope my answers could have helped you out also.

Vivian gave you good info.  I suggest you add 2 Super B Complex vitamins to your daily vitamins.  One in the morning, one in the afternoon.

Did you say your B-6 was high or low?

Edited to add:  B-6 is one of the B vits you can overdo causing toxicity issues.  So it may be you need to not take so many instead.  Talk to your doc and find out what is out of wack first.

The nurse just called and said the doctor looked at and I guess it was a little high but because I am not having any symptoms that there was no need to do anything at this time.  So that is that.  Thanks for all your help!
