The day I've been dreading is here....MONDAY which all my life meant DIET DAY...and today is no exception. The scale really hates me this morning. I'm now UP FIVE pounds from my lowest. I did it and now I have to UNDO it.
Plan for today:
Breakfast: protein shake
Lunch: 1/2 ham sandwich, cheese stick, radishes
Dinner: grilled chicken breast and salad.
Snacks: I've got SF popsicles and fudgesicles, SF protein bars from Russell Stovers, plus I'll be making some SF pudding today so I have choices.
So far no Diet Coke. I've been sucking down water for nearly 3 hours. Vitamins are in and I will log my food tonight. That covers all my goals for today. Now to just stick to the plan...

RNY revision from lapband 7/30/07...TT/BL 10/9/08 and at GOAL
On this thread every day I read y'all talking about the 'diet' you're on. In this thread Steph said..."The day I've been dreading is here....MONDAY which all my life meant DIET DAY...and today is no exception. ". Do y'all really think of 'this' as being on a diet every day? I've really been working on the mental aspect of this whole journey and one of those things has been to accept this low carb, low fat...whatever you call the way we eat....way of eating as my 'normal' now. This isn't a diet, it's just the way I eat now. To consider it a diet changes my whole outlook.
I understand to lose those 10lbs you put on over the holidays means you need to tighten things up and stop the bad habits you picked up but if thinking of it as being a diet is so detrimental to your thinking, why that mentality? For instance...if Monday always meant diet day to Steph, isn't that just dragging old thinking into this new life? To change the old saying "you'll always get what you always got if you always do what you always did" to "you'll always get what you always got if you always think like you always thought." Please tell me if I'm over-thinking this thing!!
I really want to understand how the mind works at ya'lls stage so I'll be prepared for it. I don't know that I could live the rest of my life in 'diet mode'. That's part of what got me here....getting tired of the perpetual diet, getting off of it and regaining over and over.
So do you really think of this as being on a diet all the rest of your life?
pre-B - chai tea
B - cottage cheese and shrimp
L - ham and pinto beans
S - Fage cheesecake and apple
D - Turkey chili
LNS - chai tea
For all of us, diet is a very dirty word - like FAT. Trust me my first DIET was at 6 months old when I was put on SKIM milk and at 6 years old when I first joined WW.
I think, for me, it's a matter of wrapping my mind around the word and not let it control me. But I also think that the newbies need to be aware that this new tool is not the ulitmate end all to ever having to DIET again. It's a tool to use WITH our DIETS. It was almost heartbreaking for me to realize that I now can eat lots of things at almost 3 years out that I couldn't as a newbie. I can also eat a lot more. Being an addictive personality like every single one of us, that means that I have to keep a very tight reign on that newfound ability to eat the junk again.
And unfortunately, I think my PCP was right about one thing in that she said, some people, no matter their successes will need to 'diet' the rest of their lives. I really hope you aren't one of them. I think I will be.
Does that make sense? Again, this is just me.

I don't do it to lose weight, but to maintain my health. If I've put on a pound our two the benefit of staying on my doctor's plan is that I'll probalbly also take those pesky pounds off. Now, that being said I tend to stick to my plan 99% of the time. With the hustle and bustle of the holidays though it was hard to stay on plan....I'd get to shopping and not get minimum protein or not get enough water or even fall asleep on the couch and forget my PM vitamins. Getting back to basics for me is just that...the very basic plan my doctor/nutritionist gave me pre-op. Protein first, lots of water, dairy, vitamins, some whole grains, veggies and when possible some fruit.

Deedles...fortunately you're still in the honeymoon stage of your surgery; enjoy it...it doesn't last forever and gets hard. If by some chance you never have a hard time with regain or maintaining the wait you lose, that will be great. After about 2 years out it gets pretty tough, if not a little sooner. The less you ever delve back into the carb world, the better off you will be. They are addictive and bad, bad, bad! We can call it diet, back to basics, whatever...it's getting back on track or strict with eating and eating what we should be eating. If we are maintaining it's not as strict as if we have to take off some lbs.
One great piece of advice: don't get off trac****il you get to your goal wt. or below it!

I think too, that if new people will use their honeymoon phase to really create some lasting habits that they are in a better position to handle the later years.
I just past my 2 year mark and I still eat on baby plates with baby spoons. I still refrain from drinking while eating and I still use shakes. Some people see this as "diet" mentality, but not me. To me, this is the way the rest of the world should be eating...healthy, nutritious foods in correct portion sizes. We must get out of this SUPER SIZE ME mentality. There is simply no need for a 16" dinner platter that some places use for a single diner.
Ok, off my box....I know I can't change the world, but I can work on my little corner. :) Love ya'll!!!
