Vitamin D deficiency makes us more susceptible to coughs and flu
I caught a segment on the Today Show this morning about natural foods that can help people stave off various infections and stress naturally. One of the recommendations for staying healthy during cold and flu season is to make sure you're getting enough milk as vitamin D deficiency makes us more susceptible to catching those viruses.
So, I think a lot of us now have the answer to why we take our vitamins dilligently and spend more time sick than we did pre-op.

Dee......for some reason we look at ourselves through "fat eyes". I only see what others see when a photo is taken of me and I see it. You are looking great and I know you feel great too. Congrats on your success !!!!

Steph;
I take my vitamins religiously as well. I'm not as perfect about having my labs run, however every time I've had them run (September 09 most recently), all of my levels are within acceptible ranges. My first three winters post-RNY, overall I was much healthier as well, but the last two years, I've been much more susceptible to colds and upper respiratory infections.
I have many friends, especially those who live in the Northeast, who are 5+ years out and experiencing the same things I am. I hope you continue to experience exponentially good health.

Oops...Let me re-phase what I said...I in no way meant to imply that YOU didn't take your vitamins or have your labs done. I was trying to say that I didn't take very good care of myself before I had surgery and now I'm finally taking better care of myself so therefore MY health is better. Sorry if I offended you cuz that certainly wasn't my intent. (the beauty of typing what I'm thinking is often it doesn't come out right).

Jenn, there is more and more information coming out about Vitamin D deficiencies. Not only in us but the entire population. I have some articles on Vitamin D deficiency that I found very intereesting.
I'll look them up and forward them to you if you are interested in reading.
Do you have an idea of what your Vitamin D number was? I definitely saw a change in how I felt when my D dropped (and it was in the lab range).
I take a whole lot of vitamin D (when I remember to take my vitamins faithfully). I could tell a difference in the bone pain I was feeling in my legs quickly when I started taking vitamin D. Now when I feel the pain again I up it more for a week or two then lower it to my normal amounts I take.
