I made it through surgery 12/29/09. Whew glad that is over. I was so anxious it was horrible. I actually am surprising myself with how well I have tolerated thus far.
I am home 1 day now and doing ok. Getting in broth, sf jello, and water. Probably not the 64oz they want but pretty close.
My biggest issues are the pain right off to the side of my belly button incision and then grizzly bear that has decided to live in my gut. WOW I didnt expect all the moaning and groaning not to mention the movement. Your think there was a creature growing in there. LOL

I am all clear fluids until my week follow up.

Anyone got some advise for the pain. Did heat or ice packs work? I still havent showered. (sorry tmi) I dont have any stitches and 2 or my 5 incision sites arent even taped. It kinda freaks me out to get them wet and soapy. Im a big pain baby.

hey there,
Heat works best for me.  Shower, you will feel better.  Its ok to shower, put a band aid over your incisions while you shower to make you feel better :)
Take your pain meds on schedule if you have them... Do you best on getting in the fluids, but i will tell you there is no way i got in 64oz my first week out lol.

Congrats on your surgery!

Congrats...Welcome to the Losers Bench!

I agree with Liz....take a shower, you'll feel so much better. I took a shower the morning after my surgery in the hospital. The Dr. said good old soap and water would keep things clean, just don't soak in a tub. If they gave you pain meds, take them if you need them.

I had a creature in my, too. Gas-X strips helped more than anything other than walking. All my gas was gone by the time I went in for my follow-up.

I am with Dee I took a shower in the hospital and washed my hair and you know that made me feel a thousand times better. Just no sitting and soaking in a tub is what they told me.

Another thing that helped was walking, even though I didn't want to hubby and I went outside and walked a little each day and then it got better slowly but surely.

Congratulations on your new life... It will be all that you hoped it would and then some ! :)
