WLS and Chantix
Has anyone had RNY and taking Chantix? Or know of anyone? I have developed some small ulcers and I have to quit smoking. I know, I know, I did this to be healthy. Why in the world am I still smoking? I know all this, I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience.

I don't know anything about Chantix and I don't smoke, but I hope both of you can figure out how to quit!! No bashing here. I just want you to be completely healthy and stick around for a long, long time!!

CHANTIX BAD!!! I know everyone reacts differently to drugs (And my brother had great luck with it) but after I saw what it did to John it scares the crap out of me. Deep, dark depression. If you decide to take it make sure you have someone keep an eye on you who will really watch for signs of depression and keep an even closer eye on you if it happens and you have to stop taking it. It can have some pretty nasty withdrawls too...
That is one of my concerns as I have had history in that area. My husbands knows all the signs and am sure would notice them before I would. I am more concerned with absorbtion issues. Have a call in to both Dr. Bonnor and Dr. Weinstein. Had to have surgery the other day and found out I have some ulcers in the entrance to my intestines. Have to stop smoking!!!

Holly, Michelle and I both just quit cold turkey. Going on a week with only 1 cig for both of us since then. I took the Chantix and it really, really, jacked with me bad. I mean I laid in bed for 2 days having some really bad thoughts. It scared the CRAP out of me. Some people even continue feeling this even after stopping taking it. Just be careful. Its not nice stuff, for me anyway.
I would like to help you but you cant fix stupid.
Holly - I'm not an RNY'r, but I have tried Chantix on 2 occasions. Both times I had vivid nightmares and lived on Xanax to offset the hostility I was feeling while taking Chantix. I mean the least little thing would set me off into a rage. I never felt suicidal, but homicidal, uh yeah - it was scary!
