Recipe.. Sausage & Cheese Balls
Ahhh, thanks for the insight, Nina ... I wonder if they have any "Bob Evans" in this area? Probably not (that's funny, though - my mom's side of the family are from OH - Columbus - and are named "Evans" I wonder if we have common relatives ... )
I was just posting on the main forum about how I had similar "invisible" experiences at restaurants as a pre-op. I sometimes wonder if O. customers do get 2nd rate service. I really seemed to get the cold shoulder at places like Denny's and IHOP back then sometimes. I remember one time sitting in Denny's on a very slow day, after the greeter had seated me, for over 20 minutes w/o someone coming to take my order. In the meantime, servers and busboys were going right by me like they didn't even see me. I finally got up and left, and later sent a strong letter to Denny's area HQ in Irving. I guess chit hit the fan (it really needed to!). They sent me a big apology letter, called me, and sent me like $50 in food certificates. I heard later the district manager scheduled a mandatory meeting at the restaurant on "attentiveness", and they were shown videos, supposedly including one from the surv. cam of me sitting there w/o getting service.
Have a good one ..
Since my weight loss, I noticed servers and even managers will come and sit down at my table and outright chat with me (I usually eat out alone) ... At Red Lobster and Chili's recently they even invited me to sit in their bar area, apparently thinking I look like I needed some companionship (never had that happen before!).
It's strange (and sad) to see the before/after difference as far as how society treats people based on their size.

My DS taught me her recipe as our "secret protein weapon" after surgery, Meximelt ..
I was going to post it in other forums before, but didn't think it was "RNY- or band-friendly", since it is pretty high fat ...
The basic recipei s: one pound of ground sausage, 2 cups of Bisquik mix, and 2 cups of shredded cheese (some recipes double the cheese). It helps to let the sausage and cheese warm up to room temp before mixing them in with the Bisquik. Mix all well together and form into 1 1/2" balls. Cook @ about 375 degrees on ungreased cookie sheet for about 10 minutes. It makes about 2 dozen or so balls.
My angel was telling me last week that she recently switched to 100% whole wheat pancake mix instead of Bisquik, b/c it is a bit less carbs, as well as helps avoid the gas prolbems we have with white-flour products. I can't wait to see how those turn out for me. My fav instead of Bisquik was substituting one of those packets of "Three Cheese" biscuit mix from Kroger, which are also 2-cups per packet. It made them very cheesy tasting.
I've experimented also with different kinds of sausage and cheese. My usual choice for the sausage is Jimmy Dean's "Sage" variety. My fav cheese is extra sharp cheddar. The only cheeses that didn't come out well were the low-moisture ones, like mozz, feta or blue.

I saw that stuff mentioned in a post a long time ago, Dee.
Where does one get it, do the local grocery store chains carry it? Does it taste pretty good (what's in it)?

I've never seen it in stores. I get it at Netrition. www6.netrition.com/tova_carbquik_page.html
I use for everything you would use flour or bisquick in. My favorite is for toppings for things like pot pies and for muffins.

Phyllis .. did u guys get back O.K. from OKC? Hopefully so ..
I was talking to a friend of mine in Lawton online early Saturday a.m., and she said they were snowed in for Xmas, despite their pickup truck (4WD) .. That sounded pretty bad! She said though the highway to OKC (I-35) was clear as of Saturday, so anyone coming up from TX should have no problems getting there ..
