It's happening....

I've been expecting it, was hoping it wasn't going to happen, but everybody said it would and I've learned to believe what ya'll tell me. Today my hair started falling out!

I've been paying special attention to my hairbrush, the shower drain, and even my pillow. Nothing, nada. Could it be true? Could I be one of the few that will avoid this phenomenon? I've been very diligent about getting all my protein, just in case that was one of the secrets. But, alas.....I have joined the ranks of the Thinning Scalps. The shower drain didn't reveal very much this morning but there were quite a few strands stretching between my fingers as I applied my hair stuff this morning. To avoid any additonal stress I skipped the blow dryer and let it dry au natural. I had lunch with my Sewing Sisters today. As I got out of the car I brushed a few strands off my shirt and didn't think TOO much about it but just a few minutes later one of the Sisters asked me if I'd had my hair cut this morning, "they should have brushed you off, you've got hair all over you"!!!

I swear...if it gets thin enough to see my scalp on top and/or in the front, I'm gonna shave it all off! I have do rags out the wazoo, I make them for a living! And cutesy hats are popular, even if you are a morte than middle aged arthritic old lady! Besides, for some reason ever since I was a kid I've wanted to shave my head. Nows my chance!!!

Oh Dee I so understand. I like you thought I was gonna be one of the lucky ones. Not a strand one...Then one morning (about a month ago) as I showered there it was all over. After I was done with the shower it looked like a big spider covering the drain. Uggghhhh.
I have done everything I could do to get in all my vits and protein in the hopes it would not happen; but well I guess it is just part of the process.
I have always had hair down to my waist and very thick; but I had always wonted to have a short spiky do. Soooo right before surgery I had over 22" cut off and went for the spiky do. I guess at least it is still thick; but I'm not sure for how much longer. I may have to get one of those do rags that you make.
Keep us updated on what your out come is & good luck.

Good Morning Dee,

I know the feeling of losing your hair.  Mine started falling out at about 2 months after surgery.  I started taking Biotin, and I swear by it.  To this day I take one in the morning and one at night...its great for the hair and the nails.  You can get it at any drug store or Walmart carries it as well.  Hope this helps a little. Hugs.  Michelle

Take biotin faithfully! It will help. And, it will grow back, I promise.

Also keep up with all your other vitamins.

Right on schedule!!  I lost my hair from months 3 to 7.  It started growing back a lot by month 9 and now I have lots of little curly whisps of hair growing back (that are hard to get with my straightening iron....grrrrr).  Hang in there, girlfriend!!  It really does stop!!

About the same time mine started falling.  I was lucky my hair is thick and I didn't lose as much as some.  It last about 3-4 months, don't stress about the falling, most of us end up with thick hair again.  The texture could change, don't be shocked.

From all the research I've done and from all the doctors I've spoken with, I can't find any definative proof that Biotin works.  It won't hurt so you're welcome to try it but in reality most people's hair falls out from about month 4-8 and then slowly starts to return.  From my research the best thing I've found is to really UP your protein and also take supplemental Zinc.  I never took any Biotin, lost over 1/2 of my hair and now it's all back and healthy as ever.  Mine was so bad, I asked for a wig for Christmas when I was 6 months out.

I know Biotin won't help with the hair falling out, just the regrowth. But for those of you who have taken it...did you grow hair everywhere else as well? I'm mostly concerned with the facial hair. I have enough lip and chin whiskers!
