Where Did My STAMINA Go?

I could list a hundred things that are better in my life since my RNY and I don't regret it for a minute..... BUT

When I was fat I could go all day long and had the stamina of a mule.  Now I poop out early and don't have the energy I had when I was fat.  You would think not dragging 103 pounds around would give me MORE energy and although my ankles, feet and knees are eternally grateful I can't say I have more energy now.  My labs were good last time they were checked - B-12, iron, protein etc and this has been since surgery so not a new issue.

I was just wondering if anybody else was experiencing this.  Is it because I am taking in around a third of the calories I did before surgery?  Did it give me the energy in addition to keeping the weight on?  I wouldn't trade being fat to get my stamina back - just trying to understand the why of it.

Sarah,

I know exactly how you feel.  My energy level is down to hardly anything.  When I was heavy, I could go most of the day. I may have been out of breath but I still had more energy.  I cant help but wonder if it has anything to do with being so sick in the begining.  Maybe I have never fully recovered?  I dont know but like you woul sure love some answers.  Just had my lab work done this past week but I really dont think it has to do with that.  Let me know if you find anything out!  Have a great day!  Michelle

How much are you exercising?  Maybe you need to do more??  I am addicted to the elliptical machine.

I have been working longer hours so haven't been able to get to the gym hardly at all lately.  But this has been since I was healed up from my surgery and I couldn't tell any difference in my stamina when I exercised regularly or not.

Almost 5 years out and I still DON'T have the energy others talk about.  How do you sleep now, I wake up allot and the hysterectomy hot flashes have added to the lack of sleep.

Any chance you are menapausal?

No - already done with that about 8 years ago, thank goodness!

The insomnia was really weird for me because I was always one who fell asleep as soon as I got horizontal LOL.  And then I found myself staring at the clock half the night, unable to sleep.  And the hot flashes were not fun, either.

I sleep pretty good now - just crash a few hours earlier than I did when I was heavy.

Ah hell Sarah, I thought I was just OLD!!  I'm exactly like you, tired all the time and poop out easily.  I thought I was crazy when everyone kept talking about this new found energy.  Yup in the beginning I had it but certainly not now.  My labs are perfect too and I'm faithful about my vitamins.

I did discover REDLINE capsules about 3 months ago and I take one every morning and can definately tell a difference.  (I forgot mine yesterday and fell asleep before 10 pm last night.)  I buy them at GNC but discovered they are MUCH cheaper on the internet and ordered more yesterday.  They are supposed to be an appetite suppresant but I haven't found that effect yet.  Seems like I'm starving all the time but they definately help with the energy.

I hear ya.  It's strange to me because everything I do is so much easier and takes so much less effort - no huffing and puffing anymore.  And yet I find myself crashing 2 hours earlier in the evenings and giving out sooner than I did before surgery.

I am glad it's not just me.......

Are your labs OK?  Are you on any hormones for post menopause?  When I went on the bio-identical hormones it was a difference of night and day.  I have a pretty good post on my OH blog about that in 2007.
