Abnormal Pap,,,,

Okay guys... I know I'm probably freaking out over nothing, but I tend to think the worst... I had my annual with my ob about 6-7 weeks ago and received a call about 6pm tonight from my dr's nurse. Apparently my pap was abnormal and they want to do a colposcopy to text for cancer. I'm only 25, and have never had an abnormal pap. I go to the dr regularly, and did just get over a cyst, which I don't know if that's related???

Has anyone ever had an abnormal pap and everything was just fine? And if it is the worst thing possible, are the chances good that I will be ok since it was probably caught early?

I know these are all questions for my dr, and I'm putting in a call to him first thing in the morning... I'm just hoping my TMB family can comfort me and ease my mind. The nurse didn't schedule the procedure till Jan 5th...so I've got a while to wait on the results...  :-(

Thanks for listening

Since they did not schedule you until Jan 5, I would not get worked up over it.  If it was something real bad, you would think they would have made room.  Prayers for ya.

Has anyone ever had an abnormal pap and everything was just fine?   Yep.  Sometimes something can be off in the ol' body since we've undergone some major changes.  My doc made me do repeat pap tests every three months for a YEAR which sucked, buuuut, better to be safe than sorry.  I'm sure all will be fine!

Kim, don't stress I've been there many times.  An abnormal can be due to an infection.  I'm surprised your doc wants to do a colposcopy for "abnormal".  I've had it done for an askis one before and several biopsies too.

It's more as a precaution than anything.  Try not to stress about it, I KNOW it's hard but usually it's nothing.

Kim, I wanted to add, like Michelle and Debbie, I had to go through the 3 month PAP cycle also.  I've actually dealt with weird PAPS since 2001 (after my last baby).  I did end up with a hysterectomy in November but it wasn't due to results from the PAPS.

I've had abnormal paps for the last 3 years.  I had the colposcopy and ended up having a LEEP procedure(google it) done this past June.  I just had a follow up pap last week to see if the LEEP procedure cleared up the abnormal areas(haven't got the results yet).  Neither procedure was very painful, just uncomfortable.  It worried the crap out of me as well, even after the doc said abnormal paps were quite "normal".  I had a mammogram last week and it came back with some abnormalities, so I go in this morning and have an ultrasound.  At first I was worried but I refuse to keep stressing over it, so I've prayed on it and I'm done.  I pray everything turns out well for you as well.

Thanks so much Dana!  I just got back from the Dr. and I have a fibroadenoma.  I'm so thankful they were able to give me a diagnosis today and I didn't have to wait thru the holidays.  God is GOOD!  I will have an ultrasound every six months to make sure it remains the same size.   I was told to watch my caffeine intake but the funny thing is, since WLS, I don't drink anything with caffeine.  I have some occasional chocolate but nothing excessive.  Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

I had the same thing as DJ. I had to do the follow up paps every 3 months for a year and now I am back to yearly. I have since had one baby and we are expecting the second.

My doc called me at 8:30pm with my results. I know exactly how you are freaking out. He made me sit there and repeat after him "I do not have cancer." He explained everything to me and calmed me down somewhat. Anyway, if you want all of the exact details, just PM me and I can fill you in.

You guys are all so awesome, thanks so much for making me feel better. This would have sucked to have stressed about over the holiday. Now I feel better. Don't worry until there's a reason to worry, right?
