Post Op Questions

Good morning all.

My successful with no-complications surgery was last Monday (12-7-09). I've been home for 4 days and my follow up appointment isn't until 12-17-09.

Now that I feel like getting on the computer, I have a few questions. For example, the discharge papers from the hospital tell me to continue taking my synthroid and simvastin but I am very scared to swallow any pills? Was this an error ??
Second question, do I take my chewable vitamins now or wait until my follow up appointment??
Once again, I'm very scared to do anything wrong.

I've tolerated water, jello, popcicles, and broth with no problems and don't want to have any problems so I'm inquiring what ya'll think about all this.

Thanks for all your support and I wish you all a great Sunday!

I crushed my Synthroid every morning and mixed it in a spoonful of applesauce. Just check with your pharmasist to make sure your meds can be crushed, not all of them can be. But after a week that was getting very old so I started swallowing them. They are so small it was easy. The discharge papers are usually right, it's the orders Dr. Robert left for you. You can always call the office. One thing I love about the Davis Clinic is they are always there for you, no matter how minor you think your question is. If you don't have everyones emails, PM me and I'll send them to you.

I'm sure it's OK to take your chewables but if you aren't sure either call the office and talk to Jaime or just wait until your followup visit....nothing bad is going to happen to you if you decide to wait!

If your pills are about the size of a birth contril pill you should be fine swallowing them whole.  If not you can always cut them in half and swallow in 2 pieces.  Pill cutters cost about $2 at any store.  My doc didn't start me on any vitamins until after my checkup.

I was told by the NUT in the hospital to wait until after my post-op appointment to take my vitamins.  Then when I see Dr. Garth Davis, he said I was supposed to be taking them and was upset that I had not been.  So go figure....

You should call and ask, just to be sure.

my doc insisted that if you wanted pain meds you swollow a pain pill before you got released. - different docs different rules

I do know that hubby get sick much easier when he misses he synthoid - he had multiple knee surgerys last year and the time he stopped taking them b/c he forgot/got out of the habit -it was harder on him to heal -

so CALL YOUR DOC AND MAKE SURE

peace
