Jodie...that would be the LAST resort to take that crap !!!  UGH that stuff is NASTY !!!  I have taken it before.....no fun at all.   Trust me....I AM now taking the iron.   I figure by tomorrow I will be doing the "full amount " that my doc wants me to take.    I easing into the 3 iron pills aday.    I know silly but I don't want to get all blown up at once and hurt like none other from the 3-60 mg. pills.   I was told about tender iron by Vitalady and I AM going to check it out.  It is suspose to be easier on our systems.

I love Fiber One cereal and have 1/2 cup everyday.  It satisfies my urge to crunch and helps keep things moving along.

I really like Vitalady's Tender Iron, VP ..   If you take them for your iron source, you shouldn't need any stool products ..  It's carbonyl iron, which is one of most absobable forms of iron ..  It's buffered though with something so that it doesn't cause digestive problems ..  They are chewable, and have kind of a "neutral" taste to them ..  I chew 3 or 4 in the a.m. (w. Vit. C. for even better absorption) and repeat at night ..   Be sure to not take them within 2 hours of any calcium supps or milk products ..

btw, glad to hear you're doing well after your surgery still!

Thanks Paul......I think that I will go to that website now and order some.    I figure I will have to take 7 or more of them a day to get in my 180mg of iron but my surgeon's main concern is that I take Iron formulated for bariatric patients.    Not that BA is bad....but with all the issues that I am having taking them....not sure I can stand ( nor my family stand it either ) all the gas it is causing me and not to mention the other issues too.    Thanks for the information on them.   Deedles had already told me about them a while back.     Recovering well from surgery just still very swollen and extremely sore !!!

I have gone through 2 bottles of Tender Iron and they constipate me because when I forgot to take them to Arkansas (once by accident and once on purpose so I wouldn't have to deal with it) I had no bowel problems.

They are chewable but you can swallow them also as they are not very big.  I found them a bit too sweet, but when I chewed them with the sour Vit C it was just right.

I really liked the taste of the first bottle I had back in 2008, but the second bottle had an "off" taste.  I wrote Vitalady about it and she said they changed the formulation.  I can't really say if they are easier on your tummy and intestines or not because that is the only kind I have taken regularly.  I am trying a bottle of Proferrin (Iron Polypeptide) from Vitalady and just started it a few days ago so I can't compare yet.

Hi, Vivian,
Glad to hear that your surgery went well!  I'm not on the board much these days because of my wacky work schedule.  But had to respond to your constipation dilemma.  Nuts are what works for me.  Really.  I was doing the Miralax, Benefiber, etc. thing but hated another something to remember to take.  Cashews, walnuts and pecans.  A very small handful of raw, unsalted ones.  I've been eating oatmeal, too.  I found a whole grain hot cereal at Sprouts that I really like, too.  It keeps the innards moving!

 Thanks Janet,

I am VERY sore still but then it has only been a week yesterday.   I did order some Tender Iron from Vitalady......hope it works good for me.    I have tried nuts ( all kinds ) and trust me...not much works me.   LOL    I am getting better though.   Just want all my levels up where they belong and want them to stay there.    Hope your schedule settles down soon.    Good to see Jim at the SG with you!!!   Have a Merry Christmas.

I second what Jodie said! LOL. These iron infusions are a force to be reckoned with. I just pray my second one is more uneventful than the first.

I hope you feel better. And Viv, please, my surgeon or nut didn't tell me, and I had to learn from OH, remember to take Vitamin C with those iron pills! You don't want it to all be for naught! The Vit C helps with the absorption. From four months of taking the iron pills and my ferritin hasn't raised one point......
