Lets review - what vits do you take/need
I'm a lap-band patient, but for some strange reason I am having issues with nutrient absorption. I didn't have this problem before surgery, and they don't think it is a result of the surgery, but it is there none the less. :(
AM
2 BA Multi Vitamins (the Bypass ones, not the lap-band ones)
1 Prevacid 24 hour
1 Metformin (not diabetic, I have PCOS and they put me back on this last week, sigh)
Noon
1 BA 18mg iron (even though I've had a hysterectomy, for some reason I am real low)
Night
2 Chewable Calcium w/D
1 Metformin
Not nearly as much as the rest of you, but they will check levels again in January and if they are not improved then all of the above will be increased greatly. UGH!

I feel so inadequate compared to all you vitamin pro's with those huge lists of supplements ... but honestly, all I take is Nature Made Complete liquid gelcaps multivitamins, twice a day. I think because they are gelcaps you get easier absorption than regular tablets or even chewables.
I saw my WLS surgeon today for my one-year follow-up. My labs were PERFECT. In fact, he took one glance at the lab report and said, "Wow, you must be religious about taking your vitamins!" He is correct about that. He was especially impressed that my vitamin D level is normal. He says perhaps one in ten of his RNY patients has a normal D level.
Of course, I am only one year out, but so far I have to conclude that consistency is the key. I never, ever miss a dose of that one multivitamin I take.
Edit: I forgot, there IS one more thing -- I take sublingual B12 tablets, two x 500mcg, once a week.

You guys are amazeing. I thought I took alot of vitamins. I am thinking I may need more! Ok here goes..
AM: Centrum Multivitamin, Chewable Calcium, 500mg Biotin, 2000mg B-complex,
PM: Iron, 54mg Magnesium Oxide, 400mg Biotin 200mg B-clompex, Stool softner: 100mg
I know I need more. Will get my levels checked on Monday. Great Post Danni. Really gets you to thinking.
Morning: 1 capful Source of Life liquid multivitamin
500 mg calcium citrate
2 stool softeners
Lunch: 500 mg calcium citrate
2:00 pm 50 mg iron
500 mg chewable vit C
Bedtime: 500 mg calcium citrate
B-complex chewable
Some vits I only take once a week:
Mondays: 50,000 D3
2500 mcg B-12 (couple times a week - B-12 past upper range on labs)
zinc *
Vit A dry 15,000 I.U.
*I stopped taking the zinc when my hair quit falling out at 6 months and when it started falling out again at 16 months I began taking it again it it has stopped, so it seems to help.
*edited to add* so far all my labs have been in the normal range and bone scan also. I had gotten my iron up from 52 to 77 at my 6-month labs but it dropped back to 57 at one-year. No where near low but trying to keep it from getting that way.
