Anyone watching the biggest loser?  Did you see the Dr. stand up and say that you have a 1 and 10 chance of dying after rny wls?  Nice that they check their facts...

Actually I think he said someone of THEIR SIZE, referring to Daniel and Shay and the SMO sizes they were when they started.

That said, he still may have been inaccurate.  I'm sure others will "weigh in" on that topic.

I'm glad Danny won.  He seemed like a sweetheart.  He also wound up being seriously handsome, which never hurts.

Yes, the doc did state at their starting weight if they were to have gastric bypass there chance of death in the first year was greater.  *****ally knows what those statistics are.

I'm so glad Danny won.  He did an awesome job and looks fantastic!!

I disagree.  You have a 10 in 10 chance of dying after WLS.  Just a matter of how long after.  We all have to die sometime.

 LOL George ..

But seriously, whenever I hear "scary stats" supposedly about WLS mortality rates, I remember that surgeon that spoke on the 60 Minutes article about WLS a couple of years ago ..  He said the chances of death from WLS (gastric bypass) are even lower than that for routine back surgery ..          Wow ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )

Yes, but he was referring to someone with a starting BMI of 70+.  Frankly, when your BMI is that high you have a high risk of dying from ANY surgical procedure....

I'm glad that this topic was brought up.  I heard that stat and thought "OMG my daughter is sitting her knowing that I had a RNY...what is she going to think.  That her mom is going to die w/i a year?"
I know what was ment by the comment being as Shay and Daniel were SO, but I'm sure that alot of people didn't catch on to that.
This is just how incorrect facts get started.
