REGAIN---5 years out

 Good Morning everyone!

Hope everyone is off and running to an exciting holiday season!

I would love some feedback on regain. I am 5 years post op from my RNY and I am getting ready to buckle down on a serious program. I have about 20 lbs and I need to address, and I would really love some feedback from everyone out there on how you have dealt with your regain---what you have accepted etc. I feel like I don't eat anywhere near what a "normal" person does, and I am forever making better selections....but yet it sticks. Would love some feedback to how you have dealt with it....I am seriously considering joining weigh****chers etc just to have the weekly accountability!

Thoughts???

I can sure relate to that. I am almost five years out and I seriously need to do something. WW has never worked for me and I can't imagine it working now.

Laura, I've regained a little weight myself.  My problem is the evenings, I'm just now eating lunch.  I have a friend that had WLS that joined WW early out, she said she never felt full or satisfied, my problem with grazing didn't start til about 3 - 3 1/2 years out and when I want to graze it's not the best choices.

She was VERY WW, as it allowed her to have snacks throughout the day and she's been able to maintain her weight.  Give it a try, I know some of the grads on the grad board have joined and feel better now.

I know several long term post-ops that have been successful with WW. Right now, I'm about 12 lbs. higher than my lowest weight. I hate it, but everyone says I look much healthier, so I'm not pushing myself super hard to take it off. Also, for the most part, my clothes that I bought at my lowest weight still fit - the only places I notice things being tight are occasionally in my thighs and my boobs. So I could've gained in worse places. I've got two pairs of pants I can't wear right now and a few blouses, but they weren't regulars in my rotation anyway so I'm not sweating it maybe as much as I should.

How are you adjusting to the move? Has that impacted your eating in any way?

Jenn, I'm hearing the "you look better comments" *sigh* ok maybe so but I still feel fluffy in the hip/stomach area.  I can wear some of my 4s but had to beg/borrow/steal (no not stealing, lol) some 6s to get me by.  I want to see 123 lbs again, but would be VERY HAPPY if I got back to 127 lbs.

Yeah, I hate the "you look better" commentary. Especially from the people who never told me I looked bad at my lowest. I find it odd that they were too timid to say something then, but now decide to pipe in.

Hi Laura,

I'm starting my 8th year out.  I rarely weigh because I heard a interview on TV when someone was asking super models how they kept their weight off & how much they weighed.  When Cristy Brinkley's time come around she said I have no idea how much I weigh because I only go by how my clothes feel.  I have sort of adopted that idea & that is basically how I keep my weight off.  If the clothing feels tighter, then it's back to the basic I started with after my RNY surgery until my clothing feels back to normal.  So far I'm still wearing the same size I was when I originally reached goal.  It's not easy sometimes because stresses of life, Holidays, etc make you want to go back to old habits.  I have made it my life habit to eat healthy rarely straying from that habit.  Hope this helps some but we all are out there continually fighting the battle of the bulge!  Best wishes & you look gorgeous!
