Solution for Protein Intake

Okay, I'm 3 weeks post op (Gastric Bypass via Roux-en-Y) and have had issues with a few of the protein products on the market. Some of them weren't well tolerated, some were disgusting in taste (let's face it, none taste great), and others smelled so bad I couldn't bare to bring them to my lips to drink.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Here's something I tried that seems to work for me. Isopure in the glass bottles + a packet of Crystal Light. My favorite combo is Fruit Punch Isopure and Fruit Punch drink packet. Must be shaken up several times to dissolve the Crystal Light. Isopure on its on tastes like liquid soap to me (flash backs to when I was a kid....'nuff said). We all know how important it is for us to have protein in our regimen.

I'm eager to see what others have tried.

With all the things you can mix with protein mixes, there's no reason to ever drink a nastry shake! DaVinci SF syrups, frozen fruit and Jello SF pudding mix can convert any of them!

After trying about 30 different ones, I found the Nectar Sweets Vanilla Bean Torte protein mix. It's been an excellent base for any cold shake and several hot ones. And I like it just plain when I have to.

Have you tried Pam T's hot protein chai tea? It's my new addiction! Made with the Nectar Vanilla Bean (90cal) it's only 103 cal. per cup serving. I also run the mix through the blender for a finner powder, and the serving is just 1 of my protein scoops instead of 1/2 c.

Thanks Pam!

Protein Hot Chai Mix

So I got home this evening and my furnace is out.... again! It's the ignition, like it is every winter. Talked to the repair guy and he was willing to come out tonight. But after talking to him and deciding that I want to upgrade to a better type of igniter, he needs to buy one tomorrow when the supply company opens. So tonight I'm bundled up with the space heaters on. I got home at it was 54-degrees in the house. It's warmed up to 58.

Since I'm cold, I decided to make a cup of hot tea. Then I remembered I had just read a recipe for making a hot chai tea mix. I modified it to make it protein chai tea. It's pretty darned delicious!
Protein Hot Chai Mix
6 scoops vanilla protein powder 1.5 cups non-fat powdered milk 3/4 cup instant unsweet tea mix 3/4 cup Splenda 1T. chai spice mix (or use half cinnamon and half ground ginger) 1t. ground cloves 1t. cardamon (original recipe calls for this, but I don't have any, so skipped it)
Mix all dry ingredients in bowl until well blended. Add 1/2 cup of mixture to mug and add either splash of cold milk or water -- stir to create smooth paste (so you don't get lumpy protein powder). Add 8oz ho****er and mix well. You can top with Light Redi Whip and a sprinkle of chai spice or drink it naked. (The drink is naked, not you.)
Recipe makes 7 half-cup servings. Calculation below is without the "splash of milk" when you're mixing the tea. If you use RediWhip -- it adds about 20 calories.

I'm with Dee-you just haven't found a good one.  I use Max Protein (only sold in CERTAIN GNC's or thru EggFace) and I love it.  I have a frozen protein shake everyday that tastes like chocolate ice cream.  Even my husband has them and he hasn't had the surgery, he just likes the taste.

Every protein I tried was nasty immediately post-op.  I got through by drinking Slim Fast Low Carb shakes for the first few weeks.  After a few months my taste buds relaxed and things improved.

Click espresso protein is really good.  Can't get enough of it.  You can order it through netrition.com or amazon.com.  Tastes like a hot mocha drink and it doesn't clump if you stir it real well with water before you heat it.  Tastes much better Hot then Cold. (it does have a little sugar in it though).  I also like the fat flush shake made with Whey to Go vanilla bean (1 gm sugar) and frozen strawberries.

Added And......if you check out eggface's recipes, she's got a recipe made with click and chocolate protein powder that I think beats Starbucks Chocolate Vivanno......

If you are a coffee drinker - try this
mix 1 scoop chocolate or vanilla protien powder with 1/4-1/2 cup milk (if you don't tolorate milk either use hood, soy or just plain cold water) stir till smooth - then pour into hot coffee and add splenda if needed sf syups work well added in also

You can mix most of the peach, fuzzy navel, or other fruit protien powders with crystal light - add 1 scoop to 24 oz of water with a pack of flavor

if you are a caffine addict may I suggest EAS chocolate or vanilla with edge energy powder - it has a slightly bitter taste that off sets the too sweet powder

you can mix plain or vanilla/ chocolate your choice with part of a pack of instant pudding and water or milk - I don't do so well with milk so I use water
some combos that I like are
vanilla with buttersotch and pumpkin pie spice - if you want to add some canned pumpkin (not mix just plain) and run it in the blender

vanilla with lemon is good, vanilla with vanilla plus nutmeg and egg beaters made with mikl tastes kind of egg nog ish

just play with them - you will find something that works for you - you can order samples on line - that is a good way to see if you can find some you like, vit shop and GNC both generally have a returen policy with in 7 days with recipte even if you have opened it and hate it. walmart has even taken some back for me  - I got it used it 2 times, gagged and returned it with my receipt.

check out eggface she has lots of ideas - then take them, make the ones that sound good and play with them

some people only do warm, some ice cold or frozen, some people use a lid and straw to minimize the smell

hope you got some ideas from all this

peace
