South Houston.. University of Houston

Hey Familia,

My son is going to be stationed in Houston after the start of the year.  He will be attending school at UH.  He is wanting to know what areas around UH are good to live in.  he's in search of an apt or house with a garage that isn't too far from UH. Any information, is much appreciated!!

It's been a few (haha) years since I graduated from UofH, so I'm not sure if it's still the same, but if so the areas immediately surrounding the college were not the best to live in.  I lived on campus my first year then lived in apartments off of Braeswood Blvd for a couple of years.

hey girl.... is he coming alone and is he going to uof h in downtown or down off 45....if in downtown he can take the train and live in this building.....

We live off of Telephone by Hobby airport.  It's maybe a 6-10 minute drive to UH.  Our neighborhood has older homes but each is different and unique and most of them are on 3/4 of an acre with garages.  They are resonably priced (most under 125,00) and because they are older you can purchase the homes that haven't been remodled yet for a VERY good price.  Thats what we did 10 yrs ago.  The neighborhood is called Garden Villas and the zip is 77061.  You can look up available homes at har.com.  HTH
