Debra, I didn't see anything that should cause anyone to flame you for either, but then some people don't have to have a good reason, do they??

I haven't had the opportunity to watch the show either, they didn't have Disc Health on the cable channels at the Hotel in KY so I'm glad that I DVR'd it.  Will prob get a chance to watch it this weekend.

I think we all compensate for the loss of our friend food in some way or another.  Some are quite destructive and I am glad that I don't have any of those.  If my biggest problem is jumping on the HAG every morning, I'll take it.  However, I also see it as a way to keep myself accountable for my weight.  It may not be the best thing for me in the world, but it is certainly far from being the worst.

Hugs, Mari

I was looking forward to the show last night and was disappointed.  Of course I stopped playing on the computer, laid on the couch and paid total attention to it, thus drifting in and out of sleep for the whole hr!  I think it was a little on the "Why you SHOULDN'T have WLS side"...would be nice if they had done a 2 hr. show w/ 1 hr. of that and then an hour on positive experiences of WLS.

Oh well, I'm not a TV producer, but obviously should be!

Debra, what you wrote is NOT negative.

I did enjoy seeing Tanya on the show just like Donna.

I think if BM gets renewed and the Davis' decide to help or speaker at another conference, they need to bring the cameras' there and interview lots of WLSers.

In fact, I think Discovery Health should do a special on it.  Oh my, the insight and information they could share.  Can you imagine them filming our dance and seeing how, no matter what our 'today' size is, we have a place to feel comfortable, accepted and happy!

Now, THAT would be a positive reflection on WLS.

That's not a bad idea, Becks...maybe you should submit it to the Davis team and/or DiscHlth.  Especially since there are many of us OHers who are Davis patients and attend the conferences.  It would be a different and interesting insight to the positive aspects of postop life.  Besides there is more to postop life than those of us who have eating disorders or drug or alcohol addictions.  I really thought that the show focused on too much of the negative aspects of WLS.  I know that the negative is there, but would have liked to have seen more of the positive, besides Marc's success. 1 positive - 3 negatives, doesn't show good odds.

well when do you see the docs again? Do you have Garth on FB? I'm game to help with whatever it would take, but I think there are a few more influential folks on here, aside from me.

I just wanted to say a little bit about cross-addictions.  You will have them.  But what you do with them is up to you.  The main thing with a cross-addiction is do not hurt yourself or someone else.

Examples.

There are people on this board who now have a cross-addiction of working out (marathons, body-building, toning, etc).  Is there anything wrong with that?  Are they hurting anyone?  They just have to know how to balance it with their family/marraige.

I am addicted to the internet.  But, I use it when it does not affect me or my family.  I use it at work, because both my jobs allow it.  I am lucky.  My work does get done for the night and I still have time for internet games or discussion boards.  If you read the NW, you realize that I start the NW on Friday for a weekend edition.  And normally do not come bac****il Sunday.  Friday and Saturday are my off nights, so I spend them with Mary.  I balance.  Or at least try to.

Mary scrapbooks and makes greeting cards.  Is she hurting anyone by doing that?  And again, Friday and Saturday, she leaves them alone after I wake up Friday afternoon (unless she comes to my part time job, where she works on her cards sometimes).

The problem comes from the cross-addiction of alcohol (hurts your body and hurts your family), drugs (besides being illegal, it does the same as above), etc.

It is up to each individual how they channel their efforts.  The show showed the bad side.  Goody goody does not sell ratings.  They did what they feel they had to do to bring in some people.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

George, I completely diagree.  I DO NOT have any cross addictions and most of the people I know don't either.  I admit some people do, but not certainly not ALL.
