Very Frustrated...Not sure what's wrong...and worried. Long...

Sorry I haven't been on here much lately... I've been working lots of ot for the holidays, and the last week or two have also just been bad....

Last Monday, shortly after noon, I began feeling bad crampy pains in my upper abdomen (right below my chest)...these were not "time of the month" cramping... They were so painful, and radiating. Throughout the day, they would come and go but still be just as intense, if not worse, and they also got lower...around my belly button, even one time during that day I swear I felt it right where my pouch is. Nothing relieved the pain, and I hadn't done anything strenuous to cause it, or eaten anything bad.

That night, I was tired of it and scared so I went to Baylor Regional @Plano er... They were very concerned with my all over abdominal pain once I told them I was post rny and had me in a room with a dr in front of me within ten minutes from triage! After running bloodwork and a ct, they told me all they found was a bladder infection and my ct was perfect and clear. No reason why I could be having such severe pains, and in the places I felt them just from that infection. They sent me home and told me to follow up with my surgeon. (they wrote me a scrip for pain meds but didn't write it for liquid, and the sad thing is when I asked the nurse if I could get liquid and explained the malabsorption she started lecturing me about how stupid I was to have this surgery.)...

So Wednesday I had an appt with my surgeon's office, and my surgeon was very concerned about the pain and ordered an abdominal sono and labs, and said if needed might have to order an upper gi and endoscopy.

About an hour after I left the drs office, I got a frantic call from my hubby... Baylor called him and told him that I may want to have my right ovary checked out via sono since I had a cyst on it... These are the same people who let me go saying my ct was perfect...my question is, were they letting the janitor read my ct the first time? Or are they like polaroids and take quite a while to develop??? (I'm so sorry guys! I'm sooo very frustrated at this point)

I had my sono on Fri and had called my surgeon and obgyn and the added a pelvic sono to the orders. Results came back Monday. My surgeons office said my gi tract looks perfect and my gallbladded looks fine (hooray! Some good news, right???) but I needed to call the obgyn about the cyst... Also, my iron level is still the same (04...the normal levels are 200-500) as the labs two months ago even though I'm on chewable iron pills. So I've got to go do iron infusions...

So the worst part is for me, is I tried all day yesterday and today to get my obgyns office on the phone and finally got someone at 4p today...they said the dr wld call me back, and I still havent heard anything.

The pain was almost unbearable today. And the worst part is, I know only what I googled on cysts. No one has told me anything about it, explained it, except to say it could be the source of this pain. But really, a cyst the size of a marble can cause such horrible pain like this???

I'm so frustrated, and I just don't like not knowing...not knowing if this is really it, or if they've missed something...the treatment??? Does this even sound right to yall?  I'm so sorry for venting on yall...I can't get the answers I need elsewhere and I'm not even sure they know for sure what the problem is.   :-(

Any suggestions?

And if you've made it all the way to the end of this post, you are truly wonderful people. I've had three meltdowns today alone, and I'm hoping i get this resolved soon.

Kim......Call your OBGYN's office NOW !!!  They have a answering service I guarantee that !!!   What if that cyst were to burst ????    Sounds to me that hospital has issues !!!   they shouldn't have told you that the CT scan was perfect when in reality it wasn't.    Hate when they do people like that.    I am having issues too.   Some of yours sounds like mine....but since they ruled out your gall bladder then it cant be the same.   My gall bladder isn't functioning normally.   I go tomorrow for anther test on it to confirm that it really isn't working properly.   Anyway....Kim I will keep you in my  prayers that you get the answers soon that you deserve.    Take care and you should be able to take pills at almost a year post op.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

If I were you, one of the things I would do is report the nurse that told you you were crazy to have WLS.  She is not a doctor.  It is none of her business.  People like that need to be reported.

Prayers for your health.

Hey Kim...
YES...a cyst the size of a marble can make you have pain so bad you feel like your appendix or WHATEVER is inside there is going to explode.  Been there, done that... in fact, I went to the ER about a month and a half ago because of it.  It started as "regular pain", then that sharp stabbing crap.  I have had a bunch before and mine usually are water filled ones that eventually burst.  The whole process from start to "finish" lasts about 4-5 days for ME.  It's like a build up, then when it breaks it hurts like no freakin' tomorrow, then the next couple days I am sore, but each day gets better.  I had so many that when I had to have a hysterectomy after my last daughter was born, the doc took out the left one because that one seemed to be the most problematic.  Definitely continue to follow whatever instructions your doc will tell you to do, but just wanted to tell you that YES, cysts can make you hurt like a son of a gun!  Definitely no picnic!  Hang in there!!!

yep, I second Jill's post.... definitely can cause PAIN all over, especially when it burst.... I had one as a teenager that ruptured so bad they had to take out half of my ovary on that side.....  so it's always best to get them checked out.... even if the bursting will eventually relieve the pain.....

OK, nurse chiming in...First...report the nurse that lectured you about the WLS, she was WAY out of line.  Second-cysts are not a big deal or a life threatening emergency.  Yes they can cause a lot of pain but it won't kill you if it bursts. So be patient with your OB-GYN, she sees these everyday.  Third-the ER doc was the one that read your sono that night and the next day when a trained radiologist read it he found the cyst.  If it's marble size, it's easy to miss.  Mine was grapefruit size, I had laproscopic surgery and life was good after several doses of pain meds.  Fourth-I'm more worried about your iron levels than anything.  You definately need to get that corrected and FAST.  You don't want to be facing possible surgery and be anemic too.  Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions I can answer.

Kim - just chiming in here to say hi and sorry that you've been faced with such pain.   Yes, they can make you feel like you're going to die, but a cyst won't actually kill you... I've had a rather large one that burst some years back and my hubby thought my appendix had ruptured because of the amount of pain I was in.

Still have them sporadically today, but not nearly to the size or pain levels as before.   Do you know if you have PCOS?   It's a typical problem for obese women.

Either way, get and get checked out.  Good luck!

Chiming in as well....  I also have cysts...  Polycystic Ovarian Disease (Syndrome)...  This causes abnormal periods, cysts, and many, many other problems....  Google it, there is tons of information on it .... It is a very common disease.  I have also had to have iron infusions.  They are not a big deal...  It does make you feel so much better and have more energy, although it is very time consuming, but well worth it.
