Hello all so I have recently had the gastric bypass surgery November 12. I am home wondering through the protein shakes trying to find one I can drink. I live in the Plano area and would love to meet a workout buddy. My best friend moved to DC for a job and we frequented the parks to do some walking. If anyone would like to workout let me know would enjoy having a partner again.

welcome to the texas mesg board - greatest place I ever found for support

first congrates on your surgery

second - finding a protien shake you like is a hunt we all go though - and then when you find one  - 6 months or a year latter one morning you stumble to the kitchen fix it like you always do take one sip and are discussed by it LOL

some thoughts and pointers on protien powder
order samples - vitalady has a lot of them and I am sure others can post iwht other places to order them from - if you are looking yourself jus****ch the carbs - slim fast is NOT what you need :)
buy from GNC or Vit shop and keep your recipte - they will normally take a mostly full container back with in 7 days
drink them made with ice in a blender or magic bullet or even just stuck back in the freezer for 30 mins to get extra cold
drink them warm - mix protien into cold water or milk (if you can do milk or want to) then pour that into your hot coffee or sf ****o - add sf suryps if you like
relize that sometimes the powder and RTD (ready to drink) are very differnent even though they are the same brand - I live on EAS powder and dump on ever EAS RTD I have ever tryed

watch for north texas meetings - they are in allen, mckinney and frisco plus semi reg starbux meet ups
contact Debbi T if she doesn't get back with you - will text her but sundays are crazy for her sometimes

keep moving - exersizing is the greatest
agian welcome

RNY on 11/15/05 with
Danni;

Funny you mention that about EAS. I thought I was the only one that had no problem when I mix the powder on my own, but dump my butt off on the RTD.

I would LOVE to be able to grab something RTD but have not found anything I can do more than a few sips of with out dumping - and I have tryed a LOT of them - pretty much given up and just carry luna bars or jr cliff bars with me for crashes or no time to eat days

I don't know what they do to make them shelf stable but whatever it is my body objeccts to

Tarciamarie,

Like Dee and Jodie I don't live near you but want to say "Howdy"!

Great doc you have!  He did my RNY and 18 months later my gallbladder.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Welcome to the TMB.  I will occasionally run or walk the path around the lake at Oak Point Park.  It's got newly paved paths and it really, pretty nice.  I'm not a regular there, per se, but am always good for a hook up if you need to talk and get support.   Otherwise, I work out at the office during lunch and run at night with my Lab after work.

If you are interested in meeting up there, send me a message and I'll reply with my cell.

As for the protein shakes, I never really did them.  I drank Isopure ready-to-drinks for the first few months and liked their flavor since it's like kool aid instead of fake, sweet stuff.  And like dani said, you may go months before you find something you like, and by then you may or may not need them......I get all my protein from food and have since about month 5.  Occasionally, I'll drink an Isopure before/during/after a strenuous workout.

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date.                                        Current as of November 1, 2009
OH Mini-Challenge Goal for New Year's Day is 170 pounds. 11 pounds to go!
