North Cypress

Hello everyone!

I'm brand new to obesityhelp.com but i have been researching for months, attended a seminar and day dreamed about lap band.

I was curious to see the surgeons listed on the site but I can't seem to find any of the surgeons from North Cypress. Can anyone recommend a bariatric surgeon at North Cypress or one close by?

I'm paying out of pocket so I want the very best!

Thank you so much for your time.. and hopefully help!

I also live in Cypress.  If you're wanting someone in the Cypress area, Dr. Matthew St. Laurent is fabulous.  Click HERE for more info about him.  For lap band, it does make sense to stay in the area, since you'll need fills.  My mother is using him and many people in the support group I go to have used him.

If you think you may be interested in gastric bypass or VSG, then I recommend Dr. Garth Davis.  He was my surgeon, and in my opinion, is the best, but he is in the Memorial City area (not really an issue for bypass or VSG since you eventually only need follow-ups yearly).

Good luck with your decision.  Choosing a great surgeon is important!!

Yes......what Laura said about Dr. St. Laurent. I love him to pieces! He did my Lap-Band and he is a wonderful surgeon. I love how he has an extensive follow-up protocol for his WLS patients (i.e. he requires NUT visits for the 1st 6 months after surgery and he requires that you see him every 4-6 weeks for the 1st year). His staff is always wonderful and helpful and they all ROCK!

Oh and if you want to attend a support meeting in the area....check out the Cy-Fair group that meets every month on the 2nd Tuesday at 7PM in the Professional Building at Cy-Fair hospital. It is open to all WLS patients including pre-op patients. Attending a support meeting with other WLS patients who are post-op can help you in your decision. You can ask questions and they will answer, giving you some insight.

Please, please, please do extensive research on surgeons in the area.  Houston is a very large area and there are many surgeons.

Please, don't take referrals and/or recommendations off of a message board.

I wish you all of the best!  :-)

I disagree.  I think it is perfectly fine to listen to suggestions off of a message board and then do you own research on the suggestions you get.  We here on OH have gone through the process and many of us know lots of people personally who have had experience with WLS.  Before surgery, I knew no one who had had it.  I would not have known where to start looking for a surgeon.  We are here to help each other.

OK.

Then I would like the OP to know that if I had listened to Garth Davis tell me that nothing was wrong with me, it was in my head, and to "get over" myself, I'd be dead.

Dead.

Please resume to your regularly scheduled programming!  :-)

I won't even pretend to know your situation or what exactly happened to you. But I agree with Laura, it can be very helpful to take people's referrals and suggestions from this messageboard. We are here to help others as well as to get help from others. If the OP is having a difficult time finding a surgeon in her area and the only place she knows to get help is this messageboard, there is nothing wrong with that. None of us on here are saying she HAS to go to the same surgeon as we did or that she HAS to have her surgery by a certain surgeon, we are simply giving her options to explore in her process to find a surgeon. The decision is ultimately up to her.

My question to you is.....did someone on this messageboard or another board tell you to choose Dr. Davis? If so.....you can't blame them or this messageboard for your choice, it was your choice.

In regards to Dr. Garth Davis, I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience or situation with him, but I know many people, both on this board and not on this board, who chose Dr. Garth as their surgeon and have had no problems whatsoever. I have heard nothing but good things about him and his staff. I know there are probably others who has problems with him, like you have, I just have not heard of anyone till now.
