When does the weight start 'falling off'? Xpost

First let me say I am NOT dissatisfyed with my weight loss so far. Never before have I lost 35lbs in a span of 2 months, 14 of those were the first week. And I do know to be expecting a stall and that it's normal. That may be why I've lost 1lb a week or less for the last 3 weeks, but I AM losing. However, ever since I started reading OH I have seen over and over people being told to have patience, that soon the weight would start just falling off. Well...WHEN does that happen? 3mo? 4? And just what constitutes 'falling off' 10lbs a month, more? I guess I just want to know when to expect the big losses everyone talks about. Yeah, I know we're all different, it's about more than the scale, etc. That doesn't stop my curiosity.

I look at everyone's stats in their signatures, looking for those who started about my same weight at surgery. I frequently see folks that have lost over 100lbs in 6mo. Well, if I'm going to do the same I've only got 4 more months to get rid of 65lbs! Actually I have a time frame.....I have a dive trip the first of June, that's seven months away. I want to be totally self sufficient for this trip. I'd like to think I'll be around 75lbs lighter by then but at this rate I just don't know if I can expect to reach that mini goal.

So .... when did you really start losing weight? When did you lose the most size?

You are right, everyone is different.  I lost 150 in 6 months.  But unfortunately for you, I am a guy and guys lose quicker.  Mary lost about like you 30 pounds or so in the first two months.  After that, she stalled for a short time, then went on to lose another 70 over a period of time.  I would guess you will start to see the pounds go shortly, especially if you are following the rules.  The more strictly you follow the rules, the quicker it will happen.  You can't think a little soda here and a cookie there won't hurt me.

Dr. Davis wants his patients to lose 10 pounds a month, so you are doing well.  Also, you lost a lot of weight before surgery, which also affects your loss (I did not lose a single pound on my six month supervised diet).  I lost 100 pounds in 25 weeks.  I also lost about a size a month while I was rapidly losing.  Here are my stats:

Month 1 (9/2-10/2) 30 pounds
Month 2 (10/2-11/2) 18 pounds
Month 3 (11/2-12/2) 18 pounds
Month 4 (12/2-1/2) 14 pounds
Month 5 (1/2-2/2) 12 pounds
Month 6 (2/2-3/2) 9 pounds
Month 7 (3/2-4/2) 12 pounds
Month 8 (4/2-5/2) 9 pounds
Month 9 (5/2-6/2) 10 pounds
Month 10 (6/2-7/2) 8 pounds
Month 11 (7/2-8/2) 11 pounds
Month 12 (8/2-9/2) 7 pounds
Month 13 (9/2-10/2) 5 pounds
Month 14 (10/2-11/2) 7 pounds

dee I was 372 at surgery - I lost my first 100 pounds in right at 6 months - took me the next 6 months to get to 225 and then a few more to get to 210, got pg gained and lost and at 3 1/2 years I am sitting at about 210 - where I was at 14-16 months out

every one loses differntly -I know that is not what you want to hear hon - you want an answer that says ok by x date you will have lost x # of pounds - no one can really give you those numbers

you can hurry the process along by being very strict with the rules - up your protien and water (gotta keep those balanced for the kidneys sake) eat small meals/snacks high protien and complex carbs every 2 to 3 hours with out fail - do what you can exersize wise - if you can walk to the end of your driveway once  - then do that and tomorrow try for once in the morning and once in the evening, than across the front of your yard, to the next drive way, a second yard - just add baby steps so A you can keep it up and B you don't get hurt and have to stop

I wore a mask in my kitchen when I baked the first  year so I woudl not "taste" with out thinking about it - sometimes I chewed gum - need to start that back

do all those little things that add up to a great wls experance - it basically comes down to

water
protien
vits (make sure you are getting those for energy and brian function)
and movement

sending you hugs hon - here whenever you need to chat/vent

Dee I don't think I noticed or felt it for probably six months, then I really looked at the numbers and was like "Wow, I've lost 100 pounds".  I didn't lose 100 pounds by my 6 month surgery date, as others had and thought, what have I done, I failed this, too?.  Either way, it happened a couple of weeks later and I was elated.  I think others will see it "falling off" and you will just see a pound or two, here and there.  It happens when it happens, but I'll keep with the general theme...exercise is critical to our success.  On the months I worked it hard with cardio and circuit trainign, I lost 10-12 pounds, on the months I didn't, I lost 3-5.  I hate to admit it, really I do, but I think exercise is the key to long term success after the 6-month mark.   BTW, you are doing wonderfully!

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date.                                        Current as of November 1, 2009

Dee....you have to take into consideration with the very long pre op diet you were on you lost a lot of weight.    Most people on their tickers have their starting weight period.    I can't remember how much you lost pre op but it was ALOT !!!!   Hang in there and don't get discouraged.   I lost 40 pre op and my weight came off extremely slow also.   The main thing is....it IS coming off !!!!  Remember you are only a newbie although you feel like a veteran !!!!   If you need additional support shoot me a email or I can PM you the Plateau Buster's Diet if you don't already have it.   Hang in there and don't get discouraged !!!   We are all here to love and support you !!!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

My stats are on my profile if you want to take a look.  I will tell you that I lost slowly.  It took me about a year to lose 75 lbs but I was also considered a "lightweight".  My total loss after plastics was 90 lbs and I reached my goal of 153 lbs/size 8.

The only time my weight "fell off" was the 16 pounds I lost on the 2-week liquid diet.  After that, the most I lost in one month was 11 pounds.  After the 4th month not even close to that.  You can see my monthly losses on my profile - I just updated it.

I lost slow and steady while others around me "dropped like mad".  But eventually it came off and I ended up at the same place as others who started their journey at about the same wight and time, only my journey took twice as long.  I know that isn't what you want to hear with your dive trip as a goal and your body may kick it in gear next month and kick butt - I hope so!

Thanks Ya'll! I guess I just need to put that 'falling off' comment in the fairy tale book and forget it! I AM thankful for where I am now and will just have patience....no matter how hard that gets. Almost 100lbs off and over 47% of my EWL is nothing to sneeze at...I'll keep reminding myself of that!

I'll follow your advice and up the exercise as much as my knees will allow. Maybe I'll also add another day in the pool, I don't have to have an instructor standing there to do the moves. Dani....I do all those little things you mentioned except for the exercise....I'll work on that.

Thanks again...I can always depend on you guys to set my head straight!
