I really need to get on the phone with someone regarding family law stuff but would like to do so with refferrals. I got screwed by a family law attorney before and don't want to see it happen again...also if any of you ladies know how to get financial help paying for an attorney???
Just for the record...I am NOT very good at asking for and much worse at recieving help...but I need it now...things are going to be very rough for the next couple of months! (and no $$ please---just love, support ,advice and prayers....)...Thanks.....

freetexasforms.org  read that website and choose what pertains to u.
You can represent yourself PRO-SE but its ALWAYS suggested that you hire an atty. especially if u think it will get "ugly" and when children are involved.

go to your local law library and see what they will offer...although most cant offer legal advice..they might steer u in the right direction.

Look for family law,,law firms and find the ones that say the first consultation is free.  At this consult, they will tell u how much they charge, what they will do for u..and if they have payment plans available.   U can look in the yellow pages under attys.

Look for a Texas Rural Legal Aid Sevices in ur area...down here they do A LOT of fam. law stuff and they do it for free OR for a lower price...i think it depends on ur income.

Hope this helps some.

Hugs,
Monica

U tell me that I sin,
U say Im bound for hell,
So once ur judgment condemns U,
I SHALL SEE U THERE.

Also remember that lawyers are required to do some pro bono work every year. I don't know how to find it but you may look into that.

Actually, to set the record straight:  The Texas Bar Association encourages, but does not require, its members to do pro bono work.  I don't want July to go on a wild goose chase looking for "required" pro bono hours from someone.

Cynthia Dooley, TX bar no. 00783975

P.S.  Would love to be able to offer advice to July but know very little about family law.  I'm more of a commercial litigator.

Thank you! I thought a lawyer friend of mine said lawyers had to do a certain number of pro bono hours per year. Sorry July! Now I know.

Sorry- Just realized hubby was logged in on this computer!

I would like to help you but you cant fix stupid.

Ahh a fellow "007" ..   Were you admitted in '92 as well?

Speaking of "pro bono", the Bar may not require that we actually do it, but we now have to "contribute" that additional "legal services fee" as part of our annual bar dues that allegedly goes for such a purpose ..  I'd like to see exactly WHO that money goes to and what is done with it each year, as it adds up to $Ms ..   !

July ..  I don't do family law personally, but please feel free to call either of our family law attys (they are both "of counsel" and affiliated with our firm) and ask for some quick advice on the phone, if you'd like  ..  They are both very nice ..  One is Stephanie Prince-Askew (ph:  469/948-4753)  and the other is Lauren Thompson (ph:  972/524-7595).

   Good luck.
