I have been on this website for a very long time and i've never posted!  I always read everyone else's post though!  But I have to post and tell everyone.... my surgery date is November 24!!!  I start my liquid diet November 10.  I am having my surgery at the medical center in Houston at University General Hospital and was wondering if anyone has had their surgery there?  Also, i have a 5.5 month old and a 6 year old, how much help will i need afterwards?  I have had 2 c-sections and bounce back QUICK but i dont know how comparable they are!  And any tips that anyone has.... FEEL FREE!!!!

Thanks,
Tiffaney

Welcome! And Howdy Neighbor....I also live in Highlands! Small world, huh?!?!  You're going to love Dr. Robert. Dr. Garth did my surgery. They are quite a team.

I really can't answer your questions. I had my surgery at Methodist Hosp. And since I don't have any kids I can't compare the surgery to a C-section for you. My surgery was pretty much pain free. My abdomin was sore, like doing too many crunches, but not painful at all. Dr. Garth gave me the option to go home the next day after the leak test but I chose to stay a second night, I just wanted to make sure there would be no problems when I started eating. There wasn't. Once home I didn't need help for anything, course I didn't have small children to take care of either! I know you aren't supposed to lift anything over 10 lbs for 3-4 weeks so that might be a problem for you.

I'm 6 weeks out and have had a great recovery. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Wow, that's awesome that you live in highlands.  Maybe we can get together sometime and go to the track and walk or something!  Where around Highlands do you live?  I live off of a side street off Jones!  Thanks for all the info, and yes... i'm sure i will LOVE Dr. Robert Davis!!!  I've met him the 1 time so far but go back on the 10th for my pre op appointment!

I have had 2 Csects.  With the RNY on Thursday by Sunday I was dragging water hoses across my yard.  So, I would say that the RNY was much easier.  My biggest problem was gas.  There will be weight lifting constraints, so you might help that baby understand Mom can't lift...tough at that age.

Good luck and I think you will be really surprised at how easy the surgery is to get over.  Hang on, this will be the ride of your life!!

Hi Tiffaney, I'll have my RNY at UGH on Thur. I'll keep you posted. I have Dr. Marvin. I don't have to do the liquid diet and he said I would go home with a pain pump. So glad you got approved and we are starting our new lives soon. Miss Jean

Good luck on your surgery... it's SOOOOO very soon!   And yes, please update me on your experience at the hospital.  I read some reviews and everything i've read says that it's more like a resort experience rather then a hospital!  I just had a baby 5.5 months ago at texas women's across the street from it and ANYTHING can probably beat my experience there!  That's pretty neat that you get to go home with a pain pump... i've never heard of anyone getting to do that!

Thanks!! How interesting my daughter Brandi   works in Labor delivery  at Womens . She has shoulder length dark hair very take charge loving  gal often trains new nurses. Yes I've been impressed with UGH so far. Had sleep study there plush pillowtop matress with comforter, flatscreen TV daybed in the room. Had endoscopy 2 weeks ago, Everyone in pre and post op were so nice.  Even IV didn't hurt which is a fear of mine even though I'm a nurse I hate needles but one poke and didn't even feel it. Even anthesthesiologist  was chatty and took interest and had an EKG done because of a heart abnormality. I even taught him something new.  My friends tell me they bring your food on a cloth covered cart like a fancy restaurant even if it's broth and jello. One friends husband was with her and he got a nice dinner delivered. I'll find out about that and let you know.. So right now I'm not nervous just getting excited.
