First Day Home

Well, I thought I was going to go home yesterday, but I was feeling a little dizzy.  Dr Provost told me that he would run some labs to see what was causing it.  I just slept all day except when I was eating or going for my walks.
That afternoon the nurse came in and said that my potassium was low.  He had me take some orally and gave me some by iv.  She told me I wouldn't be going home that day.  I asked if that could be why I was so tired, and she said no.  Then she told me that my white blood cell count was low.  She said it was 2.1.  She explained that when it goes below 2.0, they have to wear masks to be around me.  She told me that would explain my fatigue.
I feel better today, but still a little tired.  Dr P. released me.  He gave me a Rx for Darvocet.  I don't think that I will use much of it.  I haven't been taking it in the hospital.  Last night, I turned wrong and started hurting.  I used the pain pump once.  That was the last time I had anything.
I don't think I am ready to run a marathon, but I am very surprised how good I feel.  My stomach just feels tight.  I am walking a little slow, but that is more to make sure I don't hurt myself.  I am trying to get used to the full liquid diet.... and the sips.... and the walking....
Thanks everyone for thinking of me and for all the well wishes.  I MADE IT THROUGH!!!! I am a new me!!!! Yeah!!! I can eat without getting sick.  Just still have to take it slow.

Yea for being home and getting back to life!!!

Ok...just to get it straight...did he repair you or reverse you?  Either way I'm glad he could fix you.  No more feeding tube?

He reversed me.  He took the small part of the intestine that was cut and my pouch and got rid of it.  Then he took my long intestine and attached it to my stomach.  No more pouch.  I just lost a little bit of intestine, but it is MUCH more than what I had with RYGB.  I still have my tube, but he told me not to use it.  If everything is going good for my 2wk follow-up, he is going to take it out.  I will be soooo glad to get rid of it.

Thank you.  It was nice to see you too.  I am glad that you finally got to meet my husband.  He has really (surprisingly) been right there for me while I am recovering.  I am not trying to do too much.  I just am having a hard time with fatigue.  I know that I just had surgery, but I am not hurting.  It just doesn't make sense why I am SO tired.  I am struggling to keep up my walking, but I will get there.  It is nice to be able to eat (even if it is mush) for once in two years.

Kim,

I am glad to see that Will has stepped up to the plate and is being helpful.

Your fatigue will subside eventually.

Are you taking your vitamin supplements?

I hope your fatigue subsides soon.

I am glad to see that you are not hurting and are eating (even if it is mush).

Just give yourself time to heal after all you just got out of the hospital on Tuesday.

I am very proud of you.

Keep up the great work.

I am taking my vitamin supplements.  I am just impatient.  I am sure that I will come around.  My body is trying to recover from major surgery.

Thanks
