I have only eaten a little bit at at time. I get a feeling in my belly area, but it is much lower than where the doc said I would get the full feeling. We started on a protien shake thats about 12 ounces about 9 am. Mine is still not finished by 3 hours later. Kind of afraid to do too much food at once.Is this normal? Iam i being too careful? Really most of the time I dont feel like eating.
Randy seams to eat more and does not get the full feeling.
I am getting out and walking 2 times aday. today I walked 10 houses down my street and back. Am I walking enough?
We have not had a good dump yet. but we took a lqioud stool softener.

David, did your surgeon give you how many oz per per day to try to get in. It's very hard initially to get in enough protein and water, you just have to keep trying. Even if it's a matter of drinking a couple oz every hour, keep trying.
As for feeling full, the vargus nerve was cut you may not feel "full" for a while. If I remember it was not until I had solids that I could feel my pouch good, except for those crazy noises it liked to make.
Follow your surgeon on how often to walk. My surgeon recommended I walk every hour, even if it was from the living room to the bedroom and back to the living room. I also went outdoors and walked for 5-10 minutes at a time....as I felt better I increased the time.
The stool softener may not be enough initially, it'll soften what's in there but getting it out of your body may take something stronger like MOM or an enema. If you don't get relief tomorrow, try the MOM or enema then continue with the stool softeners.

some people don't get that full feeling for the first 6 mo even - so that is one reson it is so important you MESSURE your food - I drank my water and protien shakes from those little 3 oz bathroom cups for the first while - then had to have my water ice cold - so I messured out my water for the day and fridged it - carryed my insulated water bottle EVERYWHERE with me to sip sip sip - btw some peeps do better with warm drinks, some room temp and some cold- if all of a sudden one of you has problems gagging on water - try it other temps, herbal tea or weak broth work well for warm esp if your doc says no coffee
no way you can down a 12 oz shake right now - MAYBE in 6 hours, one oz every 30 mins or so
I walked around the ICU hauling pole, tubes and machines with me as soon as I was with it enough to move - set a timer and walk SOME every hour all day long - even if it is just living room to bathroom and back, if you can walk 10 houses down and not be to tiered and remember to take your water wtih you so you can sip I would think you would be ok to do so - I walked around the block by maybe two weeks out, not long after I got home but hubby or mom always came with in case I got to tiered - sat on the curb a few times LOL
I'm with dana grab a fleet or MOM - I do better with Fleet if I get backed up but am now on magnusum oxid for migraine prevention and that keeps me way reg esp whenI have plenty of water
remember if you get dehydrated your body will pull mosture from your bowels - making them into dry hard turds - if you have plenty of water in your system it dumps water back in there - making softer BMs
peace
