Milk of Magnesia works - cherry tastes better than plain, but not much. Also try using Benefiber as directed on the bottle. Lots of things you can mix it with. Hope this helps.

Start taking stool softeners NOW. The generic Colace is just fine. It's a small gelcap that's easy to swallow. I started taking 3 a day with meals. Don't wait until things get backed up or so hard it's painful to pass. Been there....it's not fun! Water is your friend!

I also use Miralax for a gentle laxative.

lots and lots and lots and lots of water. And the general consenses is 2-3 colace (generic is fine) per meal.  Just a thought, Sams club and or Costco sells is very cheap in their brand. Just sayin.....

yeah i'd go with MOM. I'd take it tonight before you go to bed.

If that doesn't work you can use a glycerol suppository (you can get them at walmart).

When it comes to crap post op, the idea is to keep things moving, otherwise things get more and more difficult to pass.

PS I take 1000 mg of magnesium oxide a day as a suppliment because it helps keep me regular.

I started having problems with the same on the mostly liquid high protein diet that my dietitian put me on at consultation. DH picked up some Fiber Choice chewable tablets (at Walgreens or CVS) and they have helped to keep things under control. If I notice that I haven't had a BM I start taking them twice a day until things are normal again.

**TMI Warning!!**.... I wasn't keeping track after surgery because it took a while for them to stop being liquid. One night I relized that it had been a few days since I had had any kind of BM. I took a Fiber Choice tab and later that night I literally had a five pound poop baby. I may as well have been in labor. I'm still on puree stage so I'm not getting much fiber naturally in my diet. So I am being careful to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Best of luck! Hope everything works out for you in the end!

Hey David,

I had this problem lately.  Was taking to colace a day and then the Doc told me if I kept that up that my body would start relying on them and my insides would stop working.  Someone suggesged the Magnicium Oxide to me so called the doc to make sure it was ok.  I take two 400mg tabels a day and after the first two days I am on a regular schedule..witch for me is every day or every other day.  If you decide to do the Oxide you have to ask the pharmacist for it.  Hope this helps a little.  Michelle

David, it's one of the side affects of not eating food.  Most of us have been there, I agree Milk of Magnesia works well and the Colace daily keeps your body functions going during the initial WLS phase.  Once you can have fiberous foods, things get better.
