GREAT NEWS!!!
I haven't had a diabetic check up in about 18 months. I guess sometimes we think we aren't on meds so we don't need to see the doctor. Well I have been having alot of lows and thought it would be good just to have a check up. My doctor ran an A1C and guess what???? My number was 5.0!!! That means I have the A1C of a non diabetic person. Before surgery my A1C was at 10.
I told the doctor my fear was that the diabetes would come back. She told me that you are never "cured" from diabetes but if I would keep up my heathy eating habits and keep my weight where it is at that she didn't think I would have any trouble in the future. Oh yeah my BP was 126/70!!!
After 2 years out you don't get too many WOW's but these definitely ones for me yesterday.
As far as the lows she told me the same thing everyone else says that I will have to eat smaller meals more often. Not to go more than 3-4 hours without something.

TEENA-that is SUCH great news-soooooooooooo much more important than a NUMBER on a scale (though THOSE can sure be FUN too!!). I absolutely agree we are never CURED from being Diabetic, and I grit my teeth and cringe, when I see someone say otherwise, but it's wonderful to see our disease can be so well MANAGED, with the right care and choices. As someone who personally went from taking insulin shots four times a day to NO Diabetes meds now, I truly understand your excitement, KUDOS to you!!!!!

We Can Do Hard Things
Thank you Gina. I was on 3 injections and 12 pills a day before surgery. It feel so good to just take vitamins everyday. I guess that's why I don't understand when people won't take their vitamins. I was so attached to a pill bottle prior to surgery that taking the vitmains is easy compared to what I was taking.
Teena,
Having been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic about 4 years ago scared me enough to start looking in to the surgery. I figured that I will always be a diabetic but if I can be a diet controlled diabetic that would be best. I am 9 months out and just had a bunch of labs done, I will find out the results next week at my appointment, that one is HUGE for me.
I also had the surgery to be a healthy me, I have been "big" my entire life so being "normal" is new and exciting.
Congrats that is wonderful and an encouragement to me, I too hope to be that healthy at 2 years post op.

Oh you will. I know there are doctors out there that aren't real supportive of WLS. But I know the doctor I saw yesterday was very excited to see how far I had come. She sat there and waited for my A1C number to see when I needed to come back. At first she said she would see me in a month then it was 2 months. When my A1C number came back she said 3-6 months.LOL
