I dont know what's going on in my head/heart but it's been 2 weeks since my RNY, I go for my first check up in 3 days, and I am convinced beyond a doubt that the surgery did not work for me, something is wrong, and that I did not lose an ounce...even gained, possibly. Is that possible? Has anyone else ever felt this way?

Fayleen, you are definitely not the only weird one.  I hope that your check up will help answer some questions for you.  I am one week out from surgery and go back for my first check up next Monday.  It is quite the journey, isn't it?  I wish you the best.  --Emanuel

Hey, I have a check up in three days too but I cheated and weighed at home. I've lost 15 pounds since surgery and I didn't think I would have lost a single thing. Cheer up! It works and any weight loss will be good weigh loss

Ok, it has only been a couple weeks so give yourself a break!  Your body has just been through the ringer and back.  Some people DO have extra weight right after surgery due to anesthesia, fluids/IV's given at the hospital, etc.  As long as you are doing what your surgeon has told you to do food/protein wise, just keep that up.  I can tell you from my own personal experience if you don't get in a decent amount of protein, you might stall out - I did.  Once I got the protein back in on a REGULAR basis, I wasn't so tired, my incisions healed up like they were supposed to do, and my weight loss was jump-started.  Did you take before photos and take measurements?  If you haven't done those things, do them now.  When the scale stops moving, you may very well be losing inches.  Taking those measurements and seeing a slow, steady loss will reassure you!  Everyone's bodies are different, too!  Just because you read where 50 people lose 10-20 pounds in a few weeks doesn't mean that you will.  For myself, I lost a bunch the first couple weeks, then the scale drop came to an abrupt HALT for like two weeks and I literally FLIPPED OUT!  The body was playing "catch up" and eventually the scale moved again.

Hang in there!  It's worth the hassle - just be sure to follow your post-op nutrition instructions set forth by YOUR doc!

You may not have lost much since surgery.  Our bodies react differently to recovery.  You may be retaining fluid or your body may be in shock.  Don't let the scale deter you.  Just keep plugging along, follow your rules, and the weight will come off!!

Fayleen,

I didn't lose much my first month either and continued to be a slow loser along the journey.  At times, it has been very discouraging.  What I will say however is that two years later, I'm just 3 lbs. from goal and couldn't be happier.   Hang on to the conclusion and try to enjoy the ride along the way.  This may seem like strange advise, but remember, it's a journey not a destination...  Your body is recovering and will take it's own sweet time to get there.  Follow the rules, exercise and have faith.  There is no way you can prevent the loss from happening, but you may not be thrilled with the roller coaster ride some days.

Hang in there!

I actually gained 5 lbs after my surgery due to the fluids they were putting in me.  So, don't worry about not losing...
Your body has to have time to adjust from being cut up, and ripped apart during surgery.

Good luck and welcome to the loser's bench...
