Hi all,

I'm in Dallas this weekend visitng my fiance and would like to start trying to find a church here, but am finding it rather overwhelming.  Seems to me there are about a milion churches here.

We are looking for either a Baptist of Presbyterian church, and we both like larger churches.  We are actually in Plano, but going to Dallas is okay, too.

So....if anyone has a recommendation and could tell me a little bit about the church, I would really, really appreciate it !!

Thank you.  Lori  (-:

You could try 1st Baptist Church of Dallas.   It is a very good church from what I hear.   I am in Fort Worth area so not so familiar with Dallas churchs.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Just called my SIL who's sister lived in Plano for years.  She went to Prestonwood Baptist church and loved it.  It is a huge church and there were lots of ways to be involved.

She loved the choir, they do a big Christmas Pagent etc.

Good luck finding the right fit.

Both those mentioned are big churches.  I am partial to First Baptist Dallas because I was a member there for several years.  I still go there the first Sunday of each month to fellowship with former Sunday School members.  We joined a closer church because our son's family goes there and it gives us an opportunity to see the grandkids every week.  Even if they don't come to church, they live less than one block from it.

Back to your request.  Either church is a very good church.  First Baptist Dallas has three services every Sunday 8AM and 10:50 for the traditional service, 9:30 for a service aimed toward the 20-30 year old crowd.

prestonwood is huge but has sooo much to offer - I know one of my son's friends family was very active there and really enjoyed it - lots and lots to do - but do make sure you get hooked up into one of the smaller groups so you don't get "lost" in the crowd

Strange thing I've noticed ..  People down here, unlike back in MO, don't seem to be inclined to invite people to attend their church ..   I've only had one friend that did so (now passed, and so has the pastor) in the 17 years I've been here ..   Even my current "boss" / law partner, who is very spiritual, has never invited me to attend the church his family does ..

You'd think being the "Bible Belt" (supposedly), people would be doing it all the time here, esp. for folks they know are in spiritual or other need  ..    I have had a couple of times when a pastor or associate pastor  of a small, independent local congregation has come up to me in public out of the blue and invited me to come to his church ..

I would feel so uncomfortable just going into a church at random where I didn't know anyone ..   So if you don't get invited, no wonder so many people don't attend ..        WWJT?

The biggest reason, in my eyes, is how ridiculous this country has gotten on being politically correct.  It is not politically correct to discuss religion in the workplace.  You might offend someone.

I do follow that rule at my full time job, however, at my part time job, where I am boss, we discuss religion all the time.  We also invite others to attend our churches.

 That's a good point, George ..

I've often talked to Grant about how we might want to use the Christian "fish" symbol in connection with our firm's advertising (our only ads to date have always been in The Shepherd's Guide Christian yellow pages), but we decided that would not be a good idea for any other ads as it might alienate potential clients of other faiths and even possibly lead to some claims of "religious discrimiination" being brought against our firm  ..

There is a church in the Plano or Richardson area, I think it may be a presby church, but is more independent ..  The pastor has lost a large amouont of weight (like over 200 lbs.) through diet and exercise, and he used to really tout that fact to get new members ..   I wish I could remember the name of it (anyone know?).   They used to mail out cards inviting people to attend that live in the area.  Their website also showed them to be a very modern, progressive church with many small groups for different interests.   I always thought they would be interesting to check out.
