OT: Fashion Help!

A week from Saturday is my 40th high school reunion.

I' ve been stressing on what to wear. I want to look my best, because very few of these people have seen me since WLS. Unless they saw me nekkid on Big Medicine.

I have narrowed it down to a blue dress, mid calf length, with a soft pleated skirt, or a black beaded top that I could wear with either pants or a long skirt. Shoes are an issue with the dress, as I do NOT wear heels.

I had just about decided on the black (shut up Jill) when I got a reminder in the mail about the reunion. It states on there "dressy casual". Now, WHAT the heck is that? I'm thinking the beaded top is too dressy.

Someone help me please! I need "What Not to Wear"!

I agree with Jill.  You are not in mourning for your weight loss.  Get rid of that black.  Blue is a happy color.

To me, "dressy casual" pretty much means anything goes and I always err on the side of overdressing rather than under. Wear the one that makes you feel the most beautiful, wonderful, skinny, sexy, whatever! You'll exude confidence then and completely knock everyone's socks off.

If it gives you any solace, my reunion was also "dressy casual". Feel free to go check out the HHS Class of '89 Reunion photo album on my Facebook profile. You'll see that it ran the gamut of gals in jeans with "going out to the club" type tops to gals in dresses bordering on ****tail. I forgot I was going up north when I chose my bright, sunny yellow dress, so one definitely can't say I'm lost in any of the photos since most of the ladies that did wear dresses chose black.

In terms of the shoes, if you choose the dress, pick a cute ballerina flat. And don't be afraid to go for a pop of color (as Stacey and Clinton would say). I'm not sure what shade of blue it is, but don't pick something that's all matchy matchy and makes you look like a lost bridesmaid.

Hope that helps!
Blessings, Jennifer

I'm "different" when it comes to these type of functions.  Wear what you like, if it's BLACK and dressy like your description then wear that.  The beaded top IMO would make you shine, and that's what you want right?

You can wear low heals with the slacks, with the dress you'll need more of a heal.

Have fun!

LYNNE-I feel your pain. I had my 30 year reunion a couple of yrs ago..oh, the STRESS!!!...Personally, I LOVE black...but you need to be sure to "dress it up" with some bright colored accessories. What is "in fashon" is what YOU ae comfortable in.If your FEET hurt-your FACE is going to show it, and people are going to think you are frowning because of THEM. If your skirt if tight and bunched up, you'll be pulling at it all night..you get the idea.

"Casual dressy" can be ANYTHING these days..from gold lame to embroidered blue jeans. I think your neaded top, with some tailored slacks, COMFORTABLE shoes (so you will MINGLE and not sit in a corner cuz your feet hurt in heels!!), with some fab, bright jewelry would look great on you. Let that beautiful MIRANDA dress you up!

Wear the black if it is what you feel more comfortable in.  You will glow at your reunion if you feel you look good.

Lynne, do you have someone who's sense of style you admire?  If so ask that person to help you decide.  Where's that Lynnette when you need her, lol?  I love dragging people shopping with me or even just to my closet to get an opinion.  I agree with Gina, go comfortable for YOU and dazzle them with your personality.

Isn't it kinda nice to have this kind of problem?   Remember when all any of us wanted to do was to hide in the background.  Now we all want everyone to see us.  I just love the feeling.

Look Lynne...you wear what makes you feel good, and if that is black, then fine.  I just tell you to add some color so you don't blend into the background.  For so long I WANTED to just blend into the background but now I don't.  Lots of times even though we've changed, our minds still have us blending into the background.  It's not always about making HUGE changes where you look like an open crayon box, but a hint of color here or there makes such a difference.  If you are going to feel most comfortable in all black, then by all means, do it.  I have lots of black things but always match them with something colorful so I'm not in that "Johnny Cash" look.

Now, if you ask me, "dressy casual" means the beaded top would be just fine!
