I have a friend (seriously) that is 2 years post op.  She says she hasn't pooped in a week.  What do those of you who have this problem chronically take?  I poop at least twice a day every day.  I cannot relate.  She has this problem often.  Please help.

Thanks!

Jenn

Jenn, Milk of Magnesia early this morning and she SHOULD move later today.  If that doesn't work tell her to get an enema.  I've been there, it's so uncomfortable.  She should get relief sometimes today with MOM or the enema.

Jennifer.....I have this problem too!!!  UGH it is the PITTS !!!!!  Tell her to go and buy some Dulcolax Supposatories....yes...those yucky things to stick where nothing should be put !!!  LOL   It will usually give you relief within 15 minutes.   Tell her also to take stool softeners every night and that should help her get regular too.   I also do Miralax in my coffee every morning.    And with all that....I go only every other day or so.   I wish her luck...it is NO picnic having constipation problems.   She could also do a bottle or Magnesium Citrate if she dares....but I have even drank that junk and it done phased me.   I am a problem child when it comes to BM's.   LOL   I will pray this works for her.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

MOM and Colace help me when it's been a day or two, but this long she may need something more.  At the pharmacy she can buy a bottle of magnesium sulfate.  She will have action within 30 minutes.  If not, she needs to call her doctor or go to the ER.  She may have blockage that needs medical attention.  This can be serious stuff.  I had a bowel obstruction and my WLsurgeon had to go in to resolve.

At 1 year out I went 10 days with a BM.  I was miserable.  Dr. Barker gave me a RX .  I think it was Amitiza or something like that.  It is the only thing that really helps me.  During that 10 days I had went through 2 bottles of MOM, Magnisium Citrate and suppositories.  I dont' have to take the RX everyday but when I have gone a few days with a BM I take it for a few days and it gets me going again.  Since I have taken that I stay fairly regular.

Thank you all so much for your input!!  I texted and emailed her this morning, and encouraged her to join this message board.  You guys are a life line for me, and have made this journey for me!

Much love,

Jenn

If this is a chronic problem she may want to start taking Colace or equvilent generic in the evenings and Miralax mixed in any beverage in the am.  both are relatively mild and can be taken every day.  She may need to adjust the number of colace taken until she get the results she wants.  It is easier to prevent than solve this problem.  If she is taking iron that just makes it worse...but we need our iron.

I take 2 Dulcalax at bedtime with a full glass of water and sometimes have to eat about 2 oz. of applesauce with Benefiber added.  It is a very common problem with me.  But, if I take the Dulcalax every other evening I stay regular..  The applesauce also helps.
