Paul.....I am so sorry that UT Southwestern has stopped their monthly support groups.   I like you feel like this is such a very very important part to our success as bariatric patients to attend such groups.    I know without my monthly support groups I would be totally lost.    Maybe they will reconsider and decide to have the support groups there anyway.    Obviously the hospital was not paying the people to do those support groups or else why would they have stopped them??  Good luck to you and Susan.    See you this weekend at the Conference.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

OMG Paul, thanks for the info.  Our PCP has suggested we take Tom back over there for a good work up since it has been a while.  I just had not made the phone call yet.

You are right.  The care and caring Tom received at Zale was top notch.  I am sure that if he had been at St. Paul it would have been the same (or at leasst I hope it would be).

I am sorry about this and the program was excellent, I just hope going forward the patients have the support they need.

Ok Paul, so Provost is who I was going to recommend to my MIL since she's batting the idea of WLS around.  I think bypass is a better choice for her than the band would be because of her being inclined to severe buyers remorse.  With bypass she wouldn't have the "get it out of me NOW" option.  I think she'd be more successful with bypass.
So, rather than send her to my doc for a band I was considering Provost or Kim for her.  Are these still the best two in your opinion?

I had my surgery at UTSW and I must say that I love there program, to me I have never put that much into there support group and it was never my defining reason for going there or staying.  I attended one support group which unfortunately for me had mostly RNY patients and didnt really help me alot, and due to my work hours it wasnt a good group for me, I found an outside support group that I attend when possible.  I truly believe that after care is more than just a support group, its the service I recieve when I go back.  I guess for me as a band patient it is a little different because I am usually in the office more than someone with another type of surgery, but even if they never had a support group I still recommend that hospital to anyone who will listen. I did have my surgery St Paul and the care was excellent and from my understanding everyone on the floor was a bariatric patient.
