I'm a city girl what the heck are they doing to me?

Conner is in 4th grade and can now join 4-H.  He wants to show a pig, crap I have no idea what to do with a pig; I might have grown up in the "country" but my mom never let us do these type of things.

So on October 3rd, I'm going to a "Pig Show" along with DH and my BIL (that did show livestock when he was young) to buy a pig.

This should be fun, NOT.  Rain or shine these suckers want to be fed.  I told Blane the first time that pig knocks me down I'm making pork chops, lol.

I bet someone on here will help you  out with that pig stuff. But, you can't ask me because we shoot wild pigs where I am from. LOL

You need to get with Mazie. Her girls have been showing pigs for years in 4H

My CHILD is now in FFA and has been brainwashed by the Ag teacher that she could raise a hog or chicken, or a steer.  All she hears is, you pay $500, and then you can sell for $2000.   Yeah right.

My brother and my Dad had to have  a 'come to Jebus' with her this past weekend.  Like who is going to take her every morning at 4:30 to the ag barn and again after school?  Who pays for the feed and shots and vet bills?  Only those that win Grand Champion or Reserve get any money.  Course i told her the same thing and she won't even hear it from me.   Always has to be someone else.

I raised chickens and a hog when I was in high school, but I had the land AT home to put it on and we always had chicken and pork in the freezer.  Wonder if they would notice a hog and chickens at the apartment complex?

All I know about pigs is they will dig up your yard if you give them access and they eat their own poop according to my daughter *****cently swore she would never eat pork again.

We are raising bunnies!!! But won't get them for a few months....she wanted a goat but I told her not this year!!!

Been there...done that and I wasn't a hog/goat kinda girl either.  Ben's hog had to be kept in a hog pen at MIL's house...had to drive 5 miles or so there and back everyday to feed and "walk" the pig...Oh what fun...especially if it's cold and raining.  YOu have to shave the hog before showing...then worry about it getting sunburned.  I did it for Ben.  Another year he had a goat for 4-H...dang thing hung itself on the fence with it's collar.  Dead goat + baseball game in 1/2 hr. + dad off at work = not happy mom who isn't touching a dead goat!  had to call papaw to come to the rescue.  As you can tell I supported him but wasn't not overly enthusiastic about it!  thank heavens Ben was more like me than his dad and gave up the ag/4H animal shows.

Dana WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP A PIG? second can you talk him into rabbits instead? they are quiet and don't smell

I raised pigs with my grandfather - I remember that feeding them fruit amd nuts (only works if you live where you can get that stuf free or cheap) makes the best pork

Paw never let me name them unless I named them after a meal, pork roast, pork chop, ham bone etc

and momma sows will roll over on their babys and kill them and they are canibliistic if you don't remove it quick - yuck!!!

ok I am glad that my teens opinion o****ci this year is BOOORRRINNNGGGG - we payed dues for FFA so he can take the class that is required - whatever as long as I don't have to feed, water or clean up after anything I am good with it
