I had RYGB 7/23/07.  I was 287.  I am 5'10".  I now weigh 125lbs and I am still losing.  I can not eat very much food throughout the day.  (Only about 800 calories eating as unhealthy as I can get away with.  This was the advice that my physician and nutritionist gave me.  I was told to eat the most high calorie foods that I can.)  My physician gave me a feeding tube, but I still feel terrible.  Before the tube, I felt like I was dying.  I don't feel like death anymore, but I still have no energy.  I have gained some weight.  I was at 119 when I got the tube, but I stopped gaining.  I have black rings around my eyes and I am just miserable.  I could name the list of problems that I am having, but it is too long.  My surgeon keeps telling me to wait it out, but I am so tired.  I have developed bad depression.  Please tell me that this WILL get better.  I feel stuck.  I am ready to have the whole thing reversed.  My bones are sticking out.

Darling my heart goes out to you. My only words of advice are to hang in there things will get better just keep plugging away at it. Although you are eating anything you can make sure you are getting your protein and vitamins! I can commiserate with you about having problems. I am 26 months out and have been in the hospital 12 times including 6 or 7 surgeries since my origional surgery. I had been at goal since christmas but lost another 10 lbs in the last couple of weeks after this last surgery. If I am bony at 5'2" and 130lbs I can only imagine how you feel. Have you tried ensure? It is high cal but good nutrition(unless yoiu dump,it is high in sugar).Wish I could be of more help but I will keep you in my prayers!

I am getting the protein through my feeding tube.  I use Nutren 1.0.  It is prescribed.  I am on a continuous pump for 10 hours a night.  I can not drink any nutrition drinks.  They all make me sick.  Even glucerna.  I don't drink enough liquids during the day, so I try not to drink my protein.  I try to only drink water because I am so dehydrated.  I have had four surgeries that are gastric related and five or six EGD's since my surgery.  Thank you for putting me in your prayers.  That is the ONLY way that I will ever get better.

Kim,

Wow.

I responded to your post that you sent me on the revision board earlier, but I had no idea you were going through all of this.

I will keep you in my prayers.

Kim, call another surgeon, get a second opinion.  Do you know if you are a proximal or distal RNYer?

Hope you find a solution soon.

Well, I called another surgeon back in June and explained my case.  He said that he would be able to do something to help me.  He was not sure if it would be reversal surgery or a different kind of bypass, but he would be more than happy to see me.   I had made an appointment, but canceled it at my GI physician's advice.  He said that the Dr had a personality that would clash with mine.  Now that my surgeon has blown me off this last time, I made the new patient consult appointment.  I will be seeing Dr James Davidson this Friday to discuss what he can do.  From what I understand this doctor is very strict and makes you accountable for your actions.  I am okay with that.  I think a lot of us need that to keep us in line.  With my situation right now, my weight loss is out of my control.  I AM gaining weight now that I have a feeding tube, but my malnutrition symptoms are getting worse.  That tells me that I am not absorbing the vitamins that I should be.  I had labs done on 9/1, so I am waiting for the results.  I am not sure what kind of RNY that I had.  I thought that there were only two different kinds.  I only knew about open or lap.  I had lap, but don't know if it was proximal or distal.  I am VERY anxious about my appointment on Friday.  I have faith that this physician will be willing to help me.
Please continue to keep me in your prayers.

Kim I'm so sorry to hear about your difficulties.  I have a friend that is going thru the same thing but not quite as bad as you.  She's 5'11" and weighs 145 and we think she's thin.  She talks about not being able to eat enough either.  She tries to eat high calorie cheese and peanut butter straight off the spoon trying to keep weight on.  Sounds like you can't even tolerate that.  Sorry that I have no words of wisdom but know that we're here for you if you want to vent or just need a hug.
