Moving to Dallas - Need friends, support, etc !!
So...the good news is I got engaged this weekend !!! The bad news is that my fiance now lives in Dallas, so I am going to be moving.
When we met, we both lived in Knoxville (TN), but his company went bankrupt...and he ended up moving to Tx to take a really great job. I love Knoxville - this is home to me - but he makes a ton more money than I do, so it makes sense for me to go to him, instead of him coming back here. So....I'm moving - in January.
I would love to start getting to know any of you who live in the Dallas area...maybe even meet for coffee or something next time I come down to visit?
Also, can any of you tell me what support groups you attend? I will be living in Plano, but don't mind at all to drive the few minutes into Dallas, or anywhere else reasonably close.
A little about me... I'm 32 years old, no children but have the world's most wonderful cat, Zoe Elizabeth. I'm an attorney for the state prosecuting drug and DUI asset forfeitures - not sure what I will be doing when I get to Texas. Hopefully I'll find something similar. I attend a presbyterian church here, and we are looking for a church to attend in Texas...so if anyone has a suggestion, that would be great, too. (-: For exercise, I run and am working towards being ready to run my first marathon in the spring !!
Thank you in advance for your help -

First off, congrats on the engagement! I live down in the Houston area, but there are tons of FABULOUS people in the Dallas area who will chime in here shortly. They do a lot of get togethers up there so I'm sure you will be able to plug into so someone's group.
My parents lived in Knoxville for a while! Small world!!! He used to work for Maytag there in town.
Good luck and keep everyone posted on your move. This TMB group is a terrific group of people!

Thank you !! I'm very excited about getting engaged, but a little nervous about moving. I lived in Louisiana for three years when I was in school, and I remember well how lonely it was. Hence...I'm trying to find some friends, support groups, etc, before I move to hopefully make the transition easier. Plus, this time I'll have my wonderful soon-to-be husband. (:

100 people?? Ummm....wow !! That sounds great - I will definitely watch the board for that.
Yes, the Dallas landscape is a little different from TN (ha!), but that's okay....what I'm going to miss most is family/friends, you know? )-: As for the heat, a pool goes a long way towards making that okay. Since he moved to Dallas, laying out by the pool has become my new favorite activity. Getting a nice tan for my new body, lol. So, I pretty much told him that having a pool is one of my conditions for moving. (-:

I actually am going to be there during the OH event, but feel like I should spend the time with the fiance...and I don't think he would consider coming with me a good time ! Although, he would go if I asked him...he's a sweetheart. But, maybe we can get together at some point during the time I'm there?
And, cats are awesome. Here's a picture of my Zoe Elizabeth. I rather adore her. (-:
P.S. She's really not as chubby as she looks....this isn't her most flattering angle, but I think it's an adorable picture. (-:
