The NIGH****CHMAN - Tuesday 9/8

A couple of hours earlier than usual, but I am ready to leave for work and remembered the Rangers will be on the radio at 4PM for a doubleheader.  So, I thought I would get started.

Not much going on in my world.  Worked last night for time and a half pay, plus they fed us from Sonny Bryan's.  That's some good food.  I got to take home some of the extra turkey.  Probably enough for about 4 meals for me.

So, what's up with you?

If you are new to the board, this link explains what the NIGHT WATCHMAN is (if you are interested).  Otherwise, just read on, you will probably figure it out anyway.

Below is one of God's children that definitely need our prayers.  This is one specific cases, we know there are others out there.  Remember them too.

Gina J. - Pray for her 6 year old Marina, diagnosed with a terminal illness at age 2. She has improved, but still needs our prayers.  Pray for this brave little girl

OK.....DRUM ROLL......YIPPEEE!!!!  The girls won ALLLLLL their matches today!!!  It was absolutely FANTABULOUS!!!!  Viktoria and her partner won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.  Then both girls went on to do their singles matches.  Heather ended up winning her match 6-1, 6-2.  Viktoria's match went to an EXCITING tie breaker and she ended up winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.  At the time she was playing, the entire team was under the impression that they were tied in total number of matches against the other school so it came down to her one match.  When she won, the ENTIRE varsity team came out and mobbed her which was soooo cool!!!  She was absolutely drenched and exhausted.  No one cared how disgustingly sweaty she was either!  I was so happy for her.  Then....the coaches all started looking at the numbers and apparently our new coach wrote one of the scores down wrong so we ended up losing against the other school by one match.  Oh well...it's a TEAM, so you win as a team and you lose as a team.  They were all let down, but they did really well nonetheless.  So, now I need to go do some laundry as the girls' clothes are a tad soggy!!!  YUCK!  I think both of the older girl**** the hay early, too!!!

Girl, I absolutely SWEAR, I am going to be completely gray or heck, BALD by the time tennis is done.  Those girls KNOW I hate watching because it makes me a nervous WRECK.  Good Lord, Paul had to stand 500 feet away from where everyone was watching - out by the darn baseball field!  He already has a gray head of hair so I told him, "ehh, a few more won't hurt ya'!!!"

Made me sick that they lost but SOOOO excited for V as she made a HUGE statement to lots of people.  No one thinks that girl can play since she's got weight issues but man are they ever wrong.  That girly can MOOOOVE!!!  The doubles partner she has right now is great.  Each one's weaknesses is the other girl's strengths.  PERFECT.  The girls they knocked off today were Juniors and they were NOT happy that they got beat by two Freshman!  hehehe...

Oh, the laundry...all I can say was GROSS!  Even though I just bought V some new match day shirts (had to pay for them myself as the darn team didn't have any XL's and that's what she has to wear - I'm not about to make her play in a "straight jacket" shirt that is too small!!!), I will be ordering her a couple more but this time in that great dry-weave type material that wicks the moisture away.  ANYTHING has to be lighter than a cotton T-shirt that is soaked from sweat.  That sucker weighed a hundred pounds it seemed!!!  Both coaches took V aside and told her what a phenominal job she did.  What a nice thing to do for ANY kid!!!  She got her head completely out of that game, refocused and got er' done!!!  SOOOOOO COOOOL!!!!!    I know all the matches will not have this same outcome, but the first one is very sweet!!!

...they did not have ONE shirt that would fit her.  Not even one.  She was so embarrased and the new coach apologized to me a hundred times over for them not having a full range of sizes.  He did say the next time shirts are ordered (they change up the match day designs every couple of years) that he will make SURE that there are more XL ones.  I had to go out to Brammer's and special order three team practice shirts and two match day shirts.  The match day shirts were no biggy at like $13 each, but the other three...they were THREE freakin' colors, printed on both sides so $30 PER SHIRT and she needed three.  UUUGH!  Oh well, they are hers and hers alone.  Those shirts that wick the moisture away are the best.  Of course, JUST the shirt is like $20, that doesn't count the screen printing......  Sheesh!!!  I didn't care about the cost though - we have ALL experienced the embarrasement of not being able to fit into something, be it clothes, a restaurant booth, etc., and it was bad enough making her try it on, let alone WEAR it for a match where your peers are watching you!!!

That freshman sure made a statement, didn't she?

Is it possible that her being there may have even elevated Heather's play, knowing how good her sister is/will be?  Just throwing that thought out there.

It had to be a great feeling for her with everyone (even her sister) so happy for her.

Oh absolutely, I am 100% convinced that Heather stepped up her game and is playing better tennis simply because she doesn't want to be shown up by her younger sister.  Heather's play has improved SO much in the past six months.  When I was up in Illinois I put them in the usual tennis clinics that I normally put them in, but also put them in a USTA league which is nothing but match play against other kids, which is exactly what they do when they are on the team.  It just gives them experience at playing matches and I swear, elevates their skills.  V got VERY teary-eyed when she lost that second set.  Heather used to do the EXACT same thing which made Paul CRAZY that they would cry but hey, kids cry when they lose!  It is SO much easier for us as adults to tell them "it's just a game" because to them, it's more than that.  They see others winning and want to do the same thing.  Heather has learn to accept the fact that she will lose some and there's nothing that crying will do except make her feel stupid in front of others so doesn't do it anymore.  Her younger sister will learn that too.  I'm just glad she got refocused and went out there and overcame the odds to pull out a win.  Then, to see Heather be the first girl out there to hug her sister - well, I was one proud momma!!!
