Trying to wait my time to drink after a meal!!

Hey Gang!!! happy Tuesday and September!!!! I decided to write you all an update about my progress and what not because so many of you have been rooting for me and cheering me on!!! It is so much more then one can ask for and I am really grateful to each and every one of you!!!

Well, I'm down to 210 lbs. This was per the last scale stepping which was more then a week ago! I try to stay away as much as possible so I don't drive myself insane! I have been learning to cook really well these days too... I always measure the amount of meat I'm trying to eat and know how much protein is in it, etc. It's hard, but I make it work on a daily basis.

My number 1 struggle these days is drinking after meals. I find that I'm ALWAYS thirsty these days and when I eat, my mouth gets dry... so I always want to drink right away or even during meals. I've been very good about not even having a drink in front of me during meals otherwise I will pick it up throughout and drink drink drink... I know sometimes I do not wait the full 30 minutes after I eat to take a sip of something to drink. I don't gulp it or even continue to drink it... I just need a sip to wet my mouth and then I set it back in the kitchen and wait my 30 minutes to go back to it. I know I shouldn't do this! I'm working on it. At work, I eat lunch and right before lunch I use crystal light packet in my water and stick it in the freezer... I like it to be a little icy, and if I don't wait at least 30 minutes, it doesn't freeze up like I like it too... Another thing I struggle with is my vitamins... for the first 3 months I was great about keeping my pill box updated and taking everything everyday... the weekends just pass me by and I seem to forget on the weekends to take them. When I'm working everything is on track just fine...

My hair has started to come out a bit, and I feel a difference but you can't see the difference. Everytime I brush my hair, a whole GLOB (SP) comes out into my brush... there is hair everywhere... I have upped my protein intake a little and started taking some biotin to see if it helps. I'm not super worried with this though, because I expected it to happen eventually.

Well that's all for now folks!! Only 20 more minutes until I can drink! I'm going to lurk the board for awhile!! :)

The drinking thing is something a lot of us have struggled with/ I still do!.  One things that helps is to keep hydrated between meals.. then you arent as thirsty when you eat. With that said tho.. i usually have to take a sip here and there myself. And yes, i have gulped a time or two also, and YES i can certaintly fit more in when i do, so i do restrain from that lol.

As for the vits, well i think there has been enough said here lately about that. All i can say is JUST DO IT! You dont have the option any more than if you were insulin/dependent diabetic. You woudlnt stop the insulin coz you were tired of messing wiht it, so you dont have that excuse here either. I know its a PITA coz it is for all of us, but again, you dont have the choice to not do it. Or if you do, feel free to ask Debra and ramon what happens when you dont take your vits

Youre doing great on the weight loss, kepe it up

Have you tried a sugar free hard candy to wet your whistle while your waiting to be able to drink? I'm right with you when it comes to being thirsty, this helps me make it through.

If you are just taking a drink after you eat I dont' think that is a problem.  If you are drinking the whole glass is when you need to worry.  I know when I eat I have to have a drink every once in a while because I feel like the food isn't going down.  The drink helps.  I will say that being in year 3 of my post op drinking with meals has become a habit that I am trying to break.  I never did this until about 6-8 months ago.  I dont' know why I started it.  So my family now reminds me that I am not suppose to drink with my meals.

Don't stress over the hair lose.  Most of us went through it.  I have very fine, thin hair.  I didn't lose as much as others but it showed more.  I would have people point it out even friends that had WLS.LOL  But now my hair is thicker than it has ever been.  Before my hair was straight now it's curly.  Go figure.LOL   I like it though.  You have the right attitude.  I think if you stress over it you will lose even more.  I still take Biotin everyday.  You might also get a shampoo for thinning hair.  That seemed to help me.

On the subject of vitamins.  I take mine at night right before I go to bed.  Before surgery I had to take medicine so now instead of the RX I take my viatmins.  It has to become a ritual.  You dont' want to become deficient.  I was low on potassium at about 3 months post op and that stuff is NASTY!!!  Other than that I had done pretty good until my 2 year labs.  I wasn't taking iron because is constipates me so bad.  Well my iron was low and now I am taking a liquid that Dr. B's office recommended.  I thought it would taste awful but it's really not bad.

You sound like you are doing good.  Keep up the good work and just work on the things you know you need to do.

Thanks friends!!!

I know that if I just keep some vitamins here at work, and also keep them at home instead of having to carry then back and forth then it might help. I keep everything with me here at work, including a huge jug of protein powder and a coffee frother for mixing up my protein drinks, so I when I get to the sore, I will have to be certain to pick up some extra vitamins. Or I can make it easy, and just fill up my pill box I bought and keep it in my purse like I used to.

I also ordered some of the Up Cal D that Dr. Thompson told me about, and it should be here by the end of next week, so that will make it easier to make sure my calcium is in! That is the one that I most often forget because I can't take it with the others that I take... I AM working on it and will continue to do so. Each monday I'm going to come on here with a weekend update and let all of you know how I did! Then you can all get on me if I didn't do so well!!!!! Just like I did with the smoking and soda updates way back before surgery!!! :)

definately having them at work helps. I was forever running out the door and forgetting them in the mornings, so having the 'back ups' in my desk or purse was always helpful
You can do this!

We won't get on you.  We just want you to be healthy.  I use the upcal d.  I just mix it with my CL thoroughout the day.  I also bought the Bariatric Advantage Chewy Bites.  They aren't as good as the original ones we use to be able to buy in the store but they aren't bad.  I keep those in my desk here at school.  So during the day I focus on getting in my calcium and take my iron in the evenings after I am home.  It's hard because sometimes we can do everything right and still have labs that aren't that great.  You have to find out how your body is going to react and set a plan for you.  Some people need more that others.  I just follow what Dr. B told me and so far I'm ok.  The iron is my fault but I am back on track.  I hope in December when I have the test run again that the iron levels are back up where they should be.  They were real low but they dropped from 68 in Decemeber to 28 in July,  So it doesn't take long for them to get out of whack.

That's for sure!!! Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but with the Up Cal, don't I have to use is it 2 or 3 scoops a day? I won't have labs done until my 6 month check up, and this month will be my 4th month check up. I go on the 30th and will confirm with them if you can't remember. I think he told us we need 2 scoops, but I just want to make sure!!!

I bought the packets and I use 3 packets a day somedays.  That iswhy I also got the chewy bites so that I wouldn't have to just have the powder alone everyday.    I think it's 1500 mg a day.  So just check and see what is in a scoop.

What multi vitamin are you taking?  I was using centrum chewables.  When I went for my 2 year checkup Dr. Thompson was telling us to use the Equate (walmart brand) kids chewables.  They are so much cheaper than the Centrums.  They taste really good too.LOL  I have to order my iron online because it's not available in stores yet even though it's over the counter.
