Vitamin storage and schedules

With Ramon's recent incidence, Debra's problems in the past, etc. vitamins and making sure not to miss them are on my mind.

I have this big pill box that has 4 compartments per day for 7 days. Until I started taking vitamins, I used it for the whole month of my RX meds. Anyway, it's how I keep my weekly vitamin schedule straight and I can tell at a glance if I've forgotten anything. I'm taking 3 chewables...calcium, multi and iron. My chewable iron is getting gummy! The iron is the only one that absorbs moisture out of this high humidity of ours. I guess it doesn't hurt anything, and short of leaving them in the big bottle I don't know how to avoid this. I really hate to do that because I'm afraid I'll forget to take it. I also don't want bottles sitting around everywhere.

What do ya'll use to keep your vitamins straight? How do you store them? I know everyone's daily schedule may be different, but how do you make sure you don't forget one? Pill boxes?

I'm "on the go" alot, so a pill box big enough didn't work for me. I use snack size sip lock baggies. I label them Sunday-Saturday, and fill them on Sunday nights. I can't go to bed until nmy baggie for the day is empty. I reuse the bags, for as for as long as possible.

They are esp helpful with the way we have to keep everything so "spaced" apart...it's HARD for me to keep things away from CAFFENE...since I'm trying to drink it all day long...just sayin'...

Anyhoo...that's what works for ME!!

I have a bunch of old RX bottles - one easily holds all my vits for one day - I fill about 12 -14 of them at a time and put them out each nite for the next day near my lunch kit.

Like Gina, I can't go to bed until the bottle of vits for that day is all gone.

This is what works for me; I've been doing it this way almost 3 years now and labs have been right on target every time I've had 'em done.

I use the "box" method but fill mine twice a week (on Wed and Sun) cuz my vitamin C is chewable and doesn't hold up well for the whole week.  Since I don't take iron, I take all of mine together each morning which makes it so easy for me.

You don't have to take your calcium 2-3 times a day? I would love to be able to take all of this in the mornings and be done with it!

Dee I've been taking 2 Citracal Petites a day for over 2 years and no iron BUT I must emphasize do what YOUR doctor recommends for YOU.  I've always been able to eat more than most people and I guess I absorb a lot from my food cuz my labs have always been perfect.  I have them checked every 6 months faithfully.  In fact I'm going tomorrow morning for mine.

My big Calcium chew pills are THE reason I had to switch to the ziplock baggies-they kept causing my pill box to pop open!!

I just keep all my medicine bottles in a clear plastic container by my desk so they're portable and convenient. I keep my food journal with it. If I've written in my food journal for the day, I know I've taken my meds. Of course, after the surgery or pre-op visit when I start the new ritual I'm guessing I will have to take them more than once a day. Maybe I'll just start journaling my meds for the day as well. Just keep the journal with them and log it in every time I open the med box. I will probably set reminders on my cell phone for when I need to take them.

If I'm going to be away from home when I need to take them I put them in an old prescription bottle with the label removed and stick it in my purse. If you need to carry just one or two chewables for travel... wrap them individually in plastic wrap so you can store with others?

If you have a cell phone that can download applications to, "there's an app for that".
I just downloaded a free application to my phone called iPills. Looks like it will be quite useful and make it easy to keep track of my meds.
