Lymphedema and RNY
Has anyone had a RNY after being Dx with lymphedema? I had lapband 17mo. ago and haven't lost any weight. Well went to get lipo prior to knee surgery and was Dx with lymphedema. It is caused by surgery or illness which interfers with the lymphatic flow of fluid in the body. I have everything ready to go for revision to RNY but concerned what the outcome maybe with adding to the problem. Has the RNY helped you by relieving the pressure on the body. Miss Jean
Hon......The TMB is pretty dead on the weekends.....especially holiday weekends. You might also have better results with answers to this question also if you post it on the Revision Message Board. I wish you much luck with seeking the answers that you need. I wish that I could help you out but don't know the answers to this question.

I suffer from severe late LE in both my lower legs now (from ankles down) ..
The onlly effect I could tell that my DS had on it was that my lower body size made it easier (actually, possible) for me to self-manage my LE, as far as self-MLDT massage and compression bandaging. When my surgeon saw me a year after my surgery, he remarked that he thought my feet/ankles looked noticeably smaller since my surgery (I was not treating them at the time he saw them). so maybe the weight loss in fact did do some good in that regard. However, the LE had just started in one of my feet at the time of my surgery and now the swelling in that foot is almost as bad as in the other foot, where it has been for many years.
I am concerned that if I have PS for loose skin, that the surgeyr will trigger LE in those areas as well .. I'm going to defintiely clear this possibility with my PS ahead of time (Dr. Kuster works with another surgeon who is an expert in LE and Lipodema) ..
btw, we have a LE forum on OH, but very few posts are even posted there .. One in awhile Amy Williams will post something in the news there ..
The Yahoo newsgroups have some very active LE forums (I belong to one just for guys) .. I would invite you to check them out .. IIRC, the National Lighthouse LE Foundation's annual conference is coming up in Atlanta very soon, too ..
