Sit down while eating

As many of you know, I'm reading the Beck Diet Solution.  This morning I read something that stuck me so I thought I'd share.

You need to ONLY EAT SITTING DOWN if you do any of the following:
1.  Take free samples from the store
2.  Taste food as you prepare meals
3.  Sneak bits of food from someone's plate as you clear the table
4.  Spoon ice cream out of the carton or reach into a bag of chips while talkng on the phone.
5.  Take a piece of candy or a pretzel as you walk past a co-worker's candy jar.
6.  Nibble on something you see while opening the refridge to get something else out.

Wow did I see myself all over this list.  That is another reason I log my food.  Those nibbles here and there add up big-time.  I'm sure there's tons more eating "while standing up" things we do...can you think of any?

Hi Stephanie,

I might need to purchase this book.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown

Faith so far, I'm finding the book very helpful.  It really deals with the psychological aspects of weight loss and dieting.  I lucked out and found it at a thrift store for $3.00.  Try to order it online at half.com or amazon.

The only one of those that I'm usually guilty of is #1.  I love free samples at the grocery store.  Please, please, please don't make me give it up.  It's only 1 out of 6.

I must be weird....
1.  Take free samples from the store
Never! You never know who has coughed or sneezed over them or touched more than one...what have they touched since they last washed their hands?
2.  Taste food as you prepare meals
Nope. Maybe because I'm in a rut and cooke the same things that I know how to season. My DH is the taster, I usually call him to see if something tastes right.
3.  Sneak bits of food from someone's plate as you clear the table
N/A....no kids or others living here and DH and I always cleaned out plates in case there was anyone starving somewhere in the world!
4.  Spoon ice cream out of the carton or reach into a bag of chips while talkng on the phone.
Never been a snacker
5.  Take a piece of candy or a pretzel as you walk past a co-worker's candy jar.
Might have done this years ago when I worked
6.  Nibble on something you see while opening the refridge to get something else out.

No, I usually open the fridge while preparing meals so I'd rather wait for what I'm fixing.

Weird....DH fits every one of these yet I'm the really fat one!

Dang Dee you're good, I guess you don't need to "sit down" every time you eat.  Me I do everyone of them!!  I'm thinking the "free samples" they're referring to are the ones from Sam's and Costco where an individual hands them out.  Personally I can eat lunch at Sam's.

Apparerntly not so good somewhere along the line....I got here! LOL!

Yeah but....even with someone handing them out they still sat there for folks to breath on!  I used to do it, too. We were brought up with food being shared...at church dinners, picnics, etc. with nary a thought about swine flu, hepatitis and all those other lovely things that go around now.  LOL...I've become a germophobe in my old age with all these new diseases and infections brought in from out of the country to the public now. I'd rather be safe than sorry....but that's just MY phobia!

I'm sure this is great advice.  But I do still cook on occasion, I keep a bag of almonds on the kitchen counter to pick at instead of taste testing.

But next time I snag a Tootsie Roll out the candy jar at work, I'll wait until I'm back sitting at my desk to eat it!  LOL

You're too funny.  I actually "cleaned off" my kitchen table and made myself sit there while I ate my snack.  I haven't seen the surface of that table since Thanksgiving!!  This silly book really has me thinking about things that really effect my weight loss journey.
