Wed WHOA - FOOD FOR THOUGHT after checking nutrition stats!

So I am tired, worn out, and thinking that I will throw together something quick. In my old way of thinking, I'd grab and chicken patty, put some spaghetti sauce on it and some mozzarella cheese and make a HARMLESS Chicken parmesan.  So I pulled the package out of the freezer and actually READ the label -

Nutrition Facts

Serving Size: 1 patty (85g)

Amount per Serving
  • Calories 190 Calories from Fat 90
Total Fat 10g
Total Carbohydrate 16g  Protein  10g

That is WITHOUT the sauce and cheese.

so the other bag in the freezer was Chicken breast Fajita strips.  And those numbers are:

Nutrition Facts

Serving Size: 4 oz (114g)

Amount per Serving
  • Calories 110
  • Total Fat 1g
  • Total Carbohydrate 1g
  • Protein 22g
So that means

50% less Calories
90% less fat
80+% less carbs
200+% MORE protein

I can put on some FF sour cream and some cheese and Julios salsa..

Much better PLAN.

Anyone else have some Food For Thought?

When you start reading the nutritional labels...it sure makes you think about what you're going to drink, eat, or otherwise put in your gullet!  i guess the main difference is the breading and how it is put on the chicken.  Convenience foods do generally have more calories.  Whoa...stopped ya cold i guess!

Becky I bet you could of used the chicken fajita meat, melted some mozerella cheese over the top and spooned a little sauce over it for a faux chicken parm too.

that's the plan for next week. I will grill a chicken breast and do it that way.  I'm having my reducing soup (that's NOT reducing me,, lol).  I have so much I need to make use of it.

I ate chicken like that today. I wrapped it in a Mission whole wheat tortilla. The carbs are kinda high for the tortilla but being whole wheat helps that aspect of it I think.

Tidbit of info. Just cause it says "wheat" doesnt mean its whole wheat. When making bread or other type purchases. Make sure the bag says "100% Whole Wheat." And not just "Wheat."

I would like to help you but you cant fix stupid.

good point John.  And the other thing is that even the 100% whole wheat is made with high fructose corn syrup unless it says so on the package. It is much easier to find now.

We went for Mexican tonight.  King wanted fajitas and I told him he should get corn tortillas instead of flour.  Looked up the nutritional data when we got home.

Corn tortilla = 41 calories
Flour Tortilla = 104 calories

5 for 1 deal there!
