FAST FOOD and Restaurants are waiting for ya! Can you avoid them this week?

I hope we can add this as a regular thread to help ALL of us trying and stay the course in our journey and work our tool as we should.

So here are the questions -

Are you prepared to avoid the vending machines, fast food breakfast, lunch, snack, and /or dinner because you have nothing with you?

Do you have food cooked at home or ready to cook quickly to keep from stopping on the way home?

Do you have a bag that is loaded with provisions like protein bars, or jerky, or beef sticks just in case you are stuck in traffic, or hung up at kid practice or a meeting?

This is what I have done this morning .   THIS IS ME, and just how I DO IT.  I'm not preaching, just sharing. I do hope others will contribute for everyone to get ideas.

I have protein shakes made for 3 days. That is the still good time line I have heard is okay.

I have 6 bottles of water that I take to work, drink, bring home and refill with my Brita water, to save on waste and money on all that plastic.

I have cooked scrambled eggs with ham and cheese this morning and separate in individual containers for the week. Yep, the week.  I can take the whole thing to work and keep in the frig there.

I have cooked up a package of chicken thighs to have ready to add to a chef salad, or just a cold snack.

I will be cooking up my Reducing soup this evening to have ready for a light dinner or just for a snack. It's full of veggies that I can't stand to eat as they are, but in the soup I can't taste the EWWW.

So, come on and share. How are you prepared?

And just a side note.  If you have eaten 'out' or in your car in the past week, look up the nutrition count on that meal.  It can be a real eye opener. When the fat and carbs far outWEIGH the protein - that's dangerous.

Are you prepared to avoid the vending machines, fast food breakfast, lunch, snack, and /or dinner because you have nothing with you? I haven't visited a vending machine in over 2 years and always take my lunch and snacks with me to work so no problems with this one.  I only do fast food on Thurs night, I have 1/2 a open-faced burger from Burger Island with less than 10 fries-last week I had no fries.  I also have my SF lemonade mix in my workbag so no Diet Coke temptation.
Do you have food cooked at home or ready to cook quickly to keep from stopping on the way home?  I have leftover steak, grilled chicken and chicken salad ready to take to work. I'll make my protein drinks tonight.  I always plan the night before what I'm having for dinner the next night.

Do you have a bag that is loaded with provisions like protein bars, or jerky, or beef sticks just in case you are stuck in traffic, or hung up at kid practice or a meeting?  I work 1.5 miles from home (no traffic) and have no practices or meetings so no I don't keep a bag packed.

I will also fill my vitamin box tonight and I will WEIGH tomorrow and hopefully the numbers alone will keep me on track.

Just got back from the store so I'll answer.

Are you prepared to avoid the vending machines, fast food breakfast, lunch, snack, and /or dinner because you have nothing with you?

I can stay away from fast food, no problem here.  No vending machines at work so that won't be a problem either.

Do you have food cooked at home or ready to cook quickly to keep from stopping on the way home?

Crock pot is going with a beef roast in it as I type, along with onions and bell pepper.  Plan is to cook it ALL day and get it super tender (fall-apart tender).  I love beef roast but it's harder for me to handle than pork roast for some reason, I think it's the stringiness (sp?) of the beef.

I also have a pork loin in the oven at 275 and it'll cook the majority of the day too.

I'm cooking lima beans today along with yellow squash and mushrooms.  I'm thinking about defrosting crab meat to stuff the mushrooms; I probably will do that too.

Also got low fat deli turkey and ham, lots of cheese options; strawberries, blueberries, nectarines and grapes.

Protein bars made yesterday.

WOW this seems like allot and I know it is but I rather have it available then be looking to satisfy myself with other stuff.

Oh and I have low-fat ricotta cheese and carbcontrol yogurt.

Do you have a bag that is loaded with provisions like protein bars, or jerky, or beef sticks just in case you are stuck in traffic, or hung up at kid practice or a meeting?

I'll have to face the popcorn challenge on Tuesday and Thursday for football practice, I need to get some beef sticks to put in my purse for a "just in case".

I've made a gallon of Crystal Light Cherry Limeade and I'm going to really try to focus more on liquids this week.

Liz,

it's really nothing more than a chicken and veggie soup. But you use only chicken broth.  Saute up the Trinity and then the cabbage into that. Add to the chicken broth, then add stewed tomatoes or rotel if you prefer, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots (if you can do the sugar) and then any other veggies. I add zucchini, green and yellow and sometimes some type of beans. This time it will be navy beans because they are very low carb/high fiber.  Course you add chicken meat to it either cooked or canned.  When you are ready to serve you are supposed to top it with spinach. But I won't touch it if it's not fresh.  the advantage for me with this is that it does NOT taste like veggies at all.

Now, when ya start adding corn, rice, potatoes, noodles, etc., the reducing part, umm, doesn't work! lol

In the past I could drop 10 pounds on it in a week. But now, it's just a good way to keep me full and get in fiber and good carbs.

Loni,

that's awesome! Emm likes it too, depending on what I put in it.  Mine is in the frig in 3 huges bowls. I don't know how to make a small amount.  This time I skipped the broccoli and cauliflower and put in yellow squash with vidalia onions and zucchini with tomatoes, some rotel, navy and pintos, tons of cabbage and chicken.

Becky,

The yellow squash is a great idea, I never thought about it.  I also never thought about pinto beans, I will be trying this next time.

Are you prepared to avoid the vending machines, fast food breakfast, lunch, snack, and /or dinner because you have nothing with you?
YES  - I'm leaving the purse and the money and/or change in the car trunk...Have to walk too far to get it......actually - I've had no desire since the scale has been kind to me this first week...there is some motivation there.

Do you have food cooked at home or ready to cook quickly to keep from stopping on the way home?  Im working on cooking or marinating some chicken tenders now in soy sauce, worcheshire sauce and garlic...pepper.  Plan on cooking about 10 of those and then just add a 4oz veggie choice (asparagus or green beans - something like that).  I also have frozen TV dinners in the fridge at work so just in case - i'm prepared for that..

Do you have a bag that is loaded with provisions like protein bars, or jerky, or beef sticks just in case you are stuck in traffic, or hung up at kid practice or a meeting? Well - not a bag - but sorta......it is in my crisper at home in the fridge...I usually put each days work in my lunch bag -   2-3 yogarts, applesauce, peaches....etc......choices through out the 10+ hour day.....(1st job to 2nd job)......cheese sticks, meat and cheese protein roll-ups..)  Dang it - just got home from the store and forgot the cottage cheese....grrrrrrrrI love me some cottage cheese and nsa peaches.....

Water:   green tea in store.....ice water at work between jobs.......trying to get in (2) 64oz jugs each day...............128oz of fluids each day...

I haven't been wanting to eat out much lately with the new B2B drive going on - but a friend is having a b-day gathering tomorrow evening at 630 at a mexican restaurant here in IRving.   I'm planning and getting mindset - NO CHIPSNO SALSA - NO CHEESE SAUCE......ordering 1 or 2 chicken enchaladas...alacarte...............yummeo........not too bad of a choice I guess.....that will be my splurge for the week..
good luck to all this week and know that I luv you all very much and thank you so much for the pms...etc....((((((Huggss)))))))))

Are you prepared to avoid the vending machines, fast food breakfast, lunch, snack, and /or dinner because you have nothing with you?  I work at home so the only "vending" machine I have to deal with is my fridge!  As far as fast foods go, nope, don't do them.  Heck, my kids haven't seen the lines of a fast food place for weeks, if not longer.  We just avoid them and get this...they don't care!  WOOHOOO!!!

Do you have food cooked at home or ready to cook quickly to keep from stopping on the way home?  Yep, I always make sure I have some quick prep items ready to go.  Sometimes I go get multiple pounds of hamburger meat and separate into one pound increments.  I then go ahead and cook it, drain it off (I swear I go through at least one entire roll of paper towels by patting out all the grease), then zap it in my food processor so it is ready to be used in some meal.  I freeze the browned up hamburger in those individual one pound portions so if I am in a hurry, that part is already done and something can be made with that in no time!

Do you have a bag that is loaded with provisions like protein bars, or jerky, or beef sticks just in case you are stuck in traffic, or hung up at kid practice or a meeting?  Well, I don't leave protein bars in the car as the heat really makes them yucko right now, but do keep non-melty type stuff in my car.  I also have a few things already individually packaged in snack size zip bags that are literally the "grab and go" kind of things.  I have to pick up my two older girls from tennis practice every day at 3:30 unless they are at a match then hustle home to make sure I'm there for the 3:55 bus for Sarah so "hurry" is definitely a word I'm quite familiar with!

Prepping ahead literally saves my butt all week long.  If I didn't do it on Sunday, I'd be scattered all week!  Yes, it takes time, but oooohhhh so worth it as it keeps me sane in the food/meal part of mommyhood.

Hope everyone has a great week!
