Good Morning My TMB Family,

I am up early but just could not sleep anymore.  That happens a lot these days.  Again I dont mind cause it is my quiet time.  We had a really nice day yesterday. Started with orientation at the middle school.  I thought it was only going to be an hour or so but ended up so much more.  We got Eric's schedule, and his locker.  We had time to walk his classes and check out the locker that he can open it ok.  It is going to be a new experience for him thats for sure. Classes are all over the place and five minuets to get between them.  He has decided he wants to play in the band so we got him signed up for that.  He wants to play the Sacksaphone.  Now we just need to go out and buy one.  He had to opt between band and Dislexia class and he decided on band.  Anyway after school we went and picked up our 2nd teen so he and Eric could have a last hurrah before school starts.  The Olive Garden, SB and home to watch a movie.  We saw the Soloist.  I like it, Mark slept through it and the boys had no interest.  Got word yesterday that the inspector found a few things that need to be fixed so will go by today and see if it something we can do or have to hire out. VA apprasor should be there tomorrow.  Oh well time for more coffee.  Prayers for those in need.  Liz I sure wish your move went better.  Does this mean you are going to have to go back?  Have a blessed day.  Love you guys  Michelle

Good Morning Michelle & TMB,

I have been up since about 4:45 myself.  It was so cool out that I decided to get my exercise done early today. I walked a very brisk three miles and was back in the house by 7:10.  I will get back to my late spring/early fall cleaning in my closet today.  Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, I'm up way too early myself.  I had a "high carb" day yesterday and managed to SLEEP away a good portion of the day.  So I guess that's why I didn't sleep well last night.  Anyway today is a new day.  I really need to work on my house and start reading the Beck Diet Solution book.

Right now I'm waiting on Clay to wake up so we can go to Walmart.  He always buys tennis shoes and work jeans and shirts there during "tax free weekend".  We went last night, took one look at  the parking lot and left.  So we'll go early this morning before the crowd hits.

I started a seperate thread about getting "back to basics" tomorrow.  Now that summer is over and the kids are returning to school it's our signal to get back on track.  So for anyone that has "fallen off the wagon", please feel free to join us.

GOOD MORNING! How is everyone? We survived the NE Mall with 3 kids last night! lol. Man it was just crazy. It was like the one time we took the kids up to La Gran Plaza on a Sat night for dinner -they have a great kids playground and a good place to eat. Its PACKED beyond belief every weekend there. We had to make the kids walk in front of us to keep an eye on them. But, we managed to get 3 pairs of leggins and a new shirt and some lip gloss. We got there and they informed me they didn't want accessories this year. Go figure! The leggins are for winter time because Sophia refuses to wear pants even in freezing weather. The new shirt was just too cute and it goes with the leggins. And well they squealed with delight when they saw soda flavored lip gloss so they had to have it! lol. They're all still asleep now.

Steph- hope you get to Wal-Mart before its crowded- we saw the parking lot last night and said FORGET it too! Michelle- hope you get everything done with the house. Today I'm meeting Brandi and hopefully others at Joe T Garcia's for brunch. I'll take the girls back before that. Then its haircut for Chris and grocery shopping. FUN!

Have a great day everyone!!!

Good morning, everyone.  I just finished reading the Back to Basics Monday thread, as well as this and a few others and I want to join you in getting back to basics.  I've just been defeated so many times, that I wonder if I can do it again.

However, your openness about your struggles amazes me.  What an active, honest group this seems to be.  If I join, I need to come up with a workable plan.   My biggest problem is with excercise.  I have painful neuropathy in both legs and in one arm, as well as arthritis, so walking is too difficult.  Do any of you have suggestions on where/what I could do for stationary excercise?  (I'm in the morbidly obese category, so a little movement will go a long way for me at first.)

Thanks for letting me jump in and ask questions.  I hope, over time, I'll feel more comfortable posting and 'fessing up'.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

My best suggestion for you regarding exercise is to discuss it with your doctor and he/she will glady inform you of the best options for you or maybe someonw with similar issues may jump in and answer.  For me, being open and honest about your journey IMO is what makes the newbies, in betweenies or anyone for that matter understand that this is not the easy way out.  It takes a dedicated effort to make the tool work.

Welcome Belle  We'd be happy for you to join us on the back to basics challenge.  You CAN do this.  Have you had surgery yet?  If so which one and when.  Any exercise is better than nothing.  Can you march in place either while sitting down or standing?  How about raising and lowering your arms or doing arm circles.  ANY type of repetitive movement will burn calories and help to tone you.  Even if you just do some sort of movement during each commercial on TV, it's something.  Tawyna is our resident exercise guru-she might have some better suggestions.

As far as you plan goes-make your goals measurable.  Examples are: take my vitamins 7 days a week, drink 64 oz of water every day.  Those are things you can look at and KNOW whether or not you reached your goal.  Let me know if I can help in any way.

Stephanie and Faith - thank you for taking the time to respond.  I really appreciate it!

And your suggestions/advice are well-taken.  The things you mentioned, Stephanie, are things I can do!  Thank you for the encouragement and the ideas.

I've been thinking about you today, in between naps.   My mother's rheumatologist has always been a big pusher of water aerobics, even if all you do is walk in circles in the shallow end or move your arms in circles under the water. My mother doesn't know how to swim, but the few times she and I have done a pool workout together, she's been fine. She just doesn't let the water get any higher than her shoulders and stays in the shallower areas unless she's doing arm work.  My mother has also been considering doing the sit and be fit exercise program. I think I've seen it run on PBS. I'm not sure if there are any videos, but it's things like lifting and lowering your arms, tapping your feet, etc.  My mother has severe range of motion and stamina limitations due to her RA, so I know, second hand anyway, what you're going through with the mobility issues. As Stephanie said, any repetitive motion will help. As you build muscle and lose a little weight (even if it's just a few pounds a month, it adds up), your stamina will increase as will your ability to do more active things such as walking. I wouldn't expect you'd ever run a marathon (unless your knees, hips, ankles, and feet are not affected, I mean), but building even a little muscle and burning a few extra calories will help, especially if you're watching what you're eating, too.

Welcome to the board! I'm going to have to check out one of your books. I like romances and mystery (I think that's why I'm such a Twihard aka Twilight fan), but I'm weird about them. Some authors appeal to me, others don't. Heck, even some series an author does are on my list of must reads but not others. For instance, I like Laura Childs's tea mysteries, but I don't like her other lines--scrapbooking and I think quilting or knitting?
