Another ridiculous Texas law/situation
First - I GOT a job....which rocks - I am going to substitute teach for the school district I live in. I have to get my fingerprints done - as part of recent legislation - which I have NO issue with as our children have to be protected from potential harm.
However, I had presumed that once I did the fingerprinting - that would mean my fingerprinting for my counselor internship (which I start in January) would be done too.
NOPE - while you only have to do it once for any school district in Texas, any other state agency that requires it - you have to pay again to get your fingerprints taken again. You go to the SAME place and they use the SAME system. But - you have to pay $50+ every time....URGH....

$50?????I get mine done every year for bonding, volunteering, etc....and don't recall every paying more than $10 or $15. Did you check with the local police station or sherriffs office? Our local PD charges only $10 while the local "notary and fingerprinting" office charges closer to $35. Either way, paying for it is CrAZy!

OH Mini-Challenge Goal for New Year's Day is 170 pounds. 11 pounds to go!
The legislation specified what firm is to be used for the fingerprinting and it is an FBI fingerprinting. Part of the money goes to the agency *****ceives the info (in this case Texas Education Agency), part goes to DPS, and part goes to the company w/ the contract.
For all of the volunteering I did - I never paid anything....
Another fine example of legislation in Texas.

yep, that does suck. Seems to me the law is written in a way to support lining the pockets of other companies. Hmm...wonder if there was a contract review for that and only one company won? I bet if we dug deep, we'd find some kin folk support going on there!
