Looking for folks to train for a 5K with me in Collin County
I've just gotten back from my run and decided it is sort of lonely out there all alone. I've been training with my PT and on my own for the Turkey Trot in November. In the interim, my goal is a 5K. Anyone inteterested in training with me? There are always 5Ks going on for charity but I figured I'd shoot for the Hills and Heels event in 7 weeks. Hills and Heels is a no pressure group focused on being healthier, not running marathons (although they do) and even first timers are encouraged to participate. I have found that is not the case with many.
My thought is we could meet once per week to train together and then during the week we run on our own. I have some guidance from my PT on how to step up to running that distance in a relatively short time frame. It is sort of what the "couch potato to 5K" is designed from.
Or if there are folks interested across the state, we could figure somethign else out and just discuss our results here.
I am open to suggestions and just looking for a way to keep me honest and moving!!!!

I'm further south. I usually train alone but I'm able to make an occasional group run or race event. So please, by all means post away and I'd be thrilled to participate in a thread with you here.
How was your run this morning? Are you doing a couch to 5k program or have you been running for a while? Do you tr5ain by time, distance or heart rate?
I've been running for a while. I am currently training for a distance. I'm running 3x a week, with Saturday mornings designated as my "long, slow run" day. My long run last week was 4 miles and this week will be 5. My two other run days this week were a 3 mile tempo run and a 3 mile hill run.
Can't wait to hear back from you!! :)

I'm really just training for distance. I am not in to speed/time at all and don't measure my heartrate except when I run on the treadmill at the gym so my trainer can record it. My trainer used an old fashioned program which is what the couch potato to 5K was created from. I was pretty sedentary before and suffer from RA, so he's been very easy with me, which is what I needed, while still holding me accountable for what I'm doing. The stages were designed to be done in one week. I think the couch potato program is shorter and combines several of these stages to shorten the training time.
Each session starts with a 5 minute walk to warm up and ends with a 5 minute cool down. The 25 minutes in between are like this:
Stage One: Alternating 5 minute walk/30 second run
Stage Two: Alternating 3 minute walk/ 30 second run
Stage Three: Alternating 3 minute walk/ 1 minute run
Stage Four: Alternating 2 minute walk/1 minute run
Stage Five: Alternating 2 minute walk/2 minute run
And I've sort of been stuck on Stage 5 for a couple of weeks and just can't find the motivation to move on to the next stages which are:
Stage Six: Alternating 1 minute walk/2 minute run
Stage Seven: Alternating 1 minute walk/3 minute run
Stage Eight: Alternating 1 minute walk/5 minute run
Stage Nine: Alternating 1 minute walk/8 minute run
Stage Ten: Alternating 30 second walk/10 minute run
Stage Eleven: 30 second walk/12 minute run
Stage Twelve: Run, run, run
I applaud you for your distance. I hope to be there some day, just don't know when. My husband runs a few miles each morning and I'd love to be able to go run with him.
Maybe we can start a weekly thread for running...I just need something to keep me on track. It isn't that my trainer is doing it, but I need more. I am finding it incredibly rewarding, but the little ol' me is still inside saying "this is hard" or "I'll go in a little while" or "I'm too tired today". I still go 4 - 5 times per week, I just can't get over the hump I'm stuck on.
