My  moms band slipped and they would not revise to a RNY.   She really wished they would have.   She regrets having it taken off but my moms surgeon did not give her the choice.

Keep in mind, she was not given the option because when her band slipped she weighed only 114 lbs and was considered underweight.    She would have liked the revision only so that she has the tool still there as a reminder.    But the doc was afriad she would loose too much weight.   And her slipping was her own fault.   She swallowed GUM.   She lost a lot of weight but never really learned how to work her tool.

Thanks everyone for your responses..  I have some research and soul searching to do.. adn still welcome more advice!  :)

i like the flexibility of the band -  but i don't want to have to worry about another slip - and although the RNY surgery itself scares the crap out of me - my hubby did good and is where he needs to be with no major problems!

i don't know i don't know i don't know.. lol

Valerie,
I totally agree with Avis.  I've had my band for a year and almost a half.  I love it.  I seldom have to throw up because I follow the band rules to avoid that.  Hopefully with doing that I'll never have a slipped band.  It's the only surgery I would consider.  I have no desire to have my insides rearranged.  The decision is yours, just consider all possibilities and do what's best for you.

Val:

My first thought after reading everyone's response is - "Are you planning on having another baby?"

If so, then I would look hard at the bypass.  Only because you could possibly end up with a slip band again.

I had the bypass and LOVE IT.  It was definitely for me, and this tool has been amazing.  Each person is going to have different things they can or cannot have.  Your husband as some, but mine are totally different I cannot have anything with sugar, (i.e. cookies), but there is also someone here that can have everything!

Goodluck with your choice.  I know it has to be hard.

Congrats on your new son!

I had my tubes tied - so no more babies.  (and husband also got snipped for double protection). :)

Ok...waited to respond so I could work out what to say so I'd make sense but crap...that'll never happen so here goes.

Ask SEVERAL strictly band doctors and a couple of docs who do more than one type of surgery...what are the chances with another band.  I personally would want whatever was going to have the least risk of issues from here on out.  If there is a high risk of more band issues for whatever reason...find something else.  Remember Alissa from the band board?  Sheesh!!!  And she's still a hot mess from having revised to bypass.  Oy!

You KNOW I love my band.  I wouldn't give it up without a fight.  BUT, if I had to...yes, I'd look into another type of surgery because I KNOW I couldn't have gotten where I am without some help/tool.  I proved that time and time again with failed dieting.

God help me but I'd probably consider the DS, but I'd have to insist that the doc NOT do the lobotomy that some do with it because I wouldn't be able to stand myself!!  LOL!

I hope you get help and answers soon and congrats on your band baby!
Feel free to ask me any question if I can be of help!
