Update on IVORIESKY
I was FINALLY able to speak to her this past weekend, after her RNY surgery last Monday by Dr. Castro. She reports surgery went O.K., she was released after a couple of days to go home, but that she has just been too tired to try getting on the laptop to post her progress and ask support questions ..
She sounded and said she felt very weak, and was having a hard time keeping any protein and liquids down, even her liquid vitamins (they'd "foamy" back up) .. She was also almost unable to speak the first few days out (sounds like the anesthesiologist was a bit rough with the ET tube) and still sounded very hoarse when I talked to her .. She also has some blood occasionaly trickling from one of her port sutures, apparently ..
She has an appt. to see Dr. C. today for her first follow-up visit. She's really concerned about how she's going to get her protein in (said she cannot drink her pre-op shakes at all) and whether she is getting deyhdrated.
Funny thing is .. she has had several of her fellow nurses from work come by to check on her, and they, I guess unaware of the post-op WLS diet restrictions, have been bringing her all kinds of things to eat and drink that she can't have/tolerate yet .. LOL .. She said her refrigerator is now packed full of stuff that she can't touch ..
Please continue to keep her in your prayers ..

Paul....She probably needs to do just liquids at this stage anyway. Tell her that the foamies are totally normal. I didn't get all my daily protein in nor all my vitamins down for probably 3 weeks to a month and maybe even longer than that. She will do fine. It takes time to get over RNY...not a walk in the park. I will keep her in my prayers along with Judy.

Thanksl, VP .. I told her something along the same lines, IIRC .. I think a lot of newbie post-ops panic and think they HAVE to get in all their protein and vits those first few weeks, or disaster will hit them ... but usually the body has sufficient stores to get it by safely for many weeks or even months before problems start cropping up ..
