I am a nanny for my sister but I am looking to go back to work but I was wanting to know if anyone knew if Wal-MArt or Target covered any of the weight loss surgery?  All I have ever worked was retail so I was wanting to know if they covered it before I got hired and worked 90 days just to find out they don't cover it lol.  Also I was told by one person that I could get insurance through the state since I was a single mom but I thought you had to be under 18, over 65, or preg to be covered by the state.   Does anyone know?

I'm afraid I can't answer any questions about Target or Wal-Mart, but you might also look at Macy's.  They bought out May Company (Foley's, Filene's, Robinsons-May, LS Ayers, etc.), and May Company's insurance covered it. Actually, come to think of it, I know someone who was working for Macy's after it bought out May Co, and they got the surgery. What I don't know is whether she was still covered under the old May Co. insurance or it was Macy's insurance. I do know it was after the buy-out and the employees were already Macy employees.

Both Wal-Mart and Target historically do NOT hire full time employees. While I am not familiar w/ the health insurance policy that Target offers - I am familiar w/ what Wal-Mart offers to their part time employees. And the policy is basically useless for the most part and does NOT cover wls of any type. It is a very bad major medical policy - meaning it will cover about 50% of the costs of emergency hospitilization....
Where in Texas are you? You may qualify for Medicaid in Texas if you are under 44 years of age, but Medicaid in Texas does not cover wls generally. (Texas has one of the worst government insurance programs in the US....)

Check with Danni,  or better yet Tami, although she's not on much. Both of them have ACTUALLY worked at Wal-Mart, Danni Part time and Tami full time, if I remember correctly.

I have no experience, but have read and heard that Container Store is an awesome employer, but it's pretty hard to get on there, as they have a huge employement draw.

Thank you ladies for answering my questions.  I have worked for wal-mart in the past ( over 8 years ) and I pretty much know the in & outs of wal-mart so if I was to go back to work for them it wouldn't take that long for me to get on full time because lets face it Wal-Mart likes to use and abuse their employee's lol.  So knowing that I have done everything under the sun I am pretty sure I would get hired on full time lol.  I know in the past they did not cover it but was wondering if anything has changed.  I heard now that you can pick what kind of coverage you can get so I was hoping that if I was willing to pay the extra money every month that they would cover it.

I live in Princeton, TX which is right outside of McKinney,TX......... which is right outside of Plano, TX.........  lol which is right outside of Dallas :).  I was told before that yes I could get covered through the state but then I was also told I would have to be preg in order to get covered lol.   I guess I need to call state to find out.

Why can't I get lucky and win the lotto or have the best doctor in north Texas say I will do the surgery all you have to do is when you lose the weight do a few commercials for us to pay us back lol.  Oh well........  A fat girl can dream can't she?  haha

lol because of all the swelling I had I was close to 330 when I went in to have my daughter.  It was so hard on me because I was so big that I couldn't do what the docotr needed me to do.  I ended up pushing for 10 sec once and then the doctor said there is no way she is going to have this baby natural so I ended up having a C-Section........  That was so not fun lol.  I before I have any more kids I want to be at a normal weight lol.  I would be to afraid to get preg now at my current weight because 1) its just not healthy and 2) I don't want to gain another 100 lbs :)

When you are looking into the state programs you should ask about WLS coverage. I know the legislature just passed a bill this past session that expanded coverage to WLS for some programs. I don't recall the details (I should have paid more attention to that but was working on other bills) but I will try to find out. Just a thought if you are doing research anyway you may want to ask about that (it probably just goes into effect Sept. 1 so be sure the person you are talking to is aware of the new laws and up to date!)
